About us
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (the NDIS Commission) is an independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services.
The NDIS Commission is the dedicated national regulator of NDIS service providers in Australia and a non-corporate entity under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.

Core functions of the NDIS Commission include:
Uphold the rights of, and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of, people with disability receiving supports or services, including those received under the NDIS Develop a nationally consistent approach to managing quality and safeguards for people with disability receiving supports or services Promote the provision of advice, information, education and training to NDIS providers and people with disability Secure compliance with relevant legislation through effective compliance and enforcement arrangements, including through the monitoring and investigation functions conferred on the NDIS Commissioner by legislation.
About the role
The role of Deputy Commissioner Practice Quality is firmly anchored in the NDIS Commission's commitment to safeguard the wellbeing and rights of NDIS participants, and to improve the quality of NDIS services.
The Deputy Commissioner Practice Quality will apply regulatory levers to address breaches and contraventions of the NDIS Act and the NDIS Rules.
The role will guide the NDIS Commission to achieve practice excellence in clinical and behavioural support regulation.

The Deputy Commissioner Practice Quality will have strong clinical credibility, a well-established reputation and professional networks, and a deep commitment to addressing systemic barriers related to the rights of people with a disability, particularly those who are subject to restricted practices.
This leadership role demands a professional who can combine their clinical expertise and experience with innovative strategies to regulate NDIS providers and workers so as to enable quality outcomes for people with disability.

The Deputy Commissioner Practice Quality is responsible for representing the Commission in whole of government processes in relation to the operation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
The role assists the NDIS Commissioner to drive the vision and purpose of the NDIS Commission and leads the Commissioner's priorities.

The key duties of the position include
Key duties
Providing strategic advice to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner, the Minister and senior stakeholders on measures to safeguard the wellbeing and rights of NDIS participants, and to improve the quality of NDIS services.
Working collaboratively with State and Territory counterparts to improve national consistency regarding regulated practices, and to enable effective data sharing arrangements.
Overseeing the provision of contemporary evidence-based clinical advice and guidance to uphold the rights of participants.
Driving improvements to the standards of practice in behaviour support and safeguards for participants.
Monitoring and enforcing compliance of Restrictive Practices and Behaviour Support Rules.
Providing leadership in relation to protecting the human rights for participants subject to restrictive practices and undertaking strategic education and compliance campaigns to reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices, including unauthorised practices.
Overseeing the safeguarding of participants where there is a need to address immediate risks for participants or high-risk practices have been identified.
Overseeing the regulation of specialist behaviour support providers and the assessments for suitability of NDIS behaviour support practitioners.
Using effective and efficient risk and intelligence capability and collecting, correlating, analysing and disseminating data, and identifying trends or systemic issues requiring interventions and regulatory/policy responses.
Leading the improvement of skills, knowledge and capability of the staff within the Practice Quality Division.
