Organisation: Department of Transport and PlanningOccupation: ProjectsReference: 6073About the Role*This is a Fixed Term Position until 30 June 2026*Reporting to the Manager of Cost Recovery, the Senior Project Officer will support the Cost Recovery team by ensuring compliance with all project management policies and procedures. The role involves tracking budget expenditure, monitoring program deliverables, and contributing to the Government's efforts to hold building practitioners accountable for non-compliant, combustible cladding.The Senior Project Officer will manage complex procurement activities, ensuring strict adherence to governance requirements, and will engage closely with divisions such as Legal Governance, Procurement, Finance, and Human Resources. The role also involves preparing project documentation, briefings, reports, and presentations, alongside evaluating processes, maintaining accurate records, and identifying and managing risks.This position requires proactive stakeholder engagement and a commitment to supporting high-quality outcomes in a dynamic and collaborative environment.Provide timely high-level advice to senior management on program and project-related issues that demonstrate an understanding of the policy, political and legal context.Manage budget, complex procurement, contract management, obtaining quotations, raising purchase orders and reconciling invoices ensuring the organisation's procurement rules and practices are followed.Support the Manager, Cost Recovery to prepare high-quality submissions, accurate reports and briefs, business cases, Cabinet submissions and discussion papers on program and project issues.Resolve issues through deep understanding or interpretation of existing guidelines. Where guidelines are not available, analyse ideas available and take action through self, or in consultation with others to resolve problems. If required, determine additional information needed to make informed decisions. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving concepts in the right context.Consider data sources, collection and structure impacts in the delivery of data analysis. Generate descriptive statistics and relevant data visualisation leading to decisions under the guidance from subject matter experts. Ability to utilise advanced Excel formulas, pivot tables and generation of data charts is required.Stakeholder Management:Organise project meetings as required, including liaising with stakeholders, preparation of agendas, meeting papers, minutes and follow-up of action items as required.Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with relevant key internal and external stakeholders and ensure timely responses to requests and project deliverables.The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a dynamic Senior Project Officer to join the Cost Recovery team and drive critical projects that address non-compliant, combustible cladding.In this role, you'll take the lead in managing complex projects, turning strategies into action, and ensuring governance measures deliver tangible results. With minimal direction, you'll navigate challenges, oversee budgets, and track deliverables to support vital government initiatives. Collaboration will be at the heart of your work as you build strong partnerships, break down barriers, and unite teams to achieve shared goals.Your ability to communicate with impact and influence others will be key. You'll present ideas with credibility, secure buy-in from diverse stakeholders, and tackle sensitive topics with confidence. Combining sharp critical thinking and problem-solving skills, you'll evaluate challenges from all angles and deliver innovative solutions that make a real difference.On a personal level, you will be highly flexible and adaptable, able to adjust systems and processes with ease in response to shifting priorities and situations.
