The Company
A National leader in their field, specialising in steel material distribution both locally and interstate.

$130k - $150k + super (dependent on experience) Monday to Friday role

Working from the National head office facility
Working Hours :
Monday to Friday, 7am – 4pm (flexibility around start and finish times will be required)
The Role: Operations Manager
In this role, you will report into the NSW State Manager (located onsite) and oversee 20+ staff across the day and afternoon shift operations whilst being supported by shift supervisors on both shifts.
The facility runs two main lines (Shear and split lines) with a Receiving and Despatch operation attached for deliveries into local Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, and ACT customers.
Your main operational duties will involve:
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the facility and management of 20+ staff across two shift patterns (Day and Afternoon).
Mentoring, coaching, retaining, and motivating the operations team, growing the team and uplifting their capability as our business and service offering expands.
Leading the team in areas of Safety.
Managing cost productivity.
Budgeting and forecasting.
Supplier and vendor contract negotiation.
Leading and promoting an innovative culture.
Leading, motivating, and developing your team to meet customer expectations and exceed operational targets.
Managing daily operations, including daily handover from day to afternoon shift operations.
Collaborating with the sales, manufacturing, and transport teams to consistently meet customer requirements.
Cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers and customers.
Leading a culture of well-being, safety, and inclusivity within the team.
Managing volume fluctuations and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and SOPs.
Identifying opportunities for operational improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and safety.
Overseeing transport and distribution to ensure timely delivery and efficient logistics management.
Managing procurement processes to maintain optimal inventory levels and supplier relationships.
Ensuring customer needs are met through efficient processes, addressing issues, and working closely with customer service to resolve problems effectively.
Working closely with sales and customer service teams to align operations with sales objectives and customer expectations.
Optimizing resource management, ensuring efficient use of materials, labour, and time.
Planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing production schedules and manufacturing processes of steel products.
Ensuring production processes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
Overseeing the allocation of materials, machinery, and personnel to optimize processes.
Monitoring production KPIs and reporting on performance.
Troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions promptly.
Coordinating regular equipment maintenance to prevent downtime.
Implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
What you will bring to the table:
Coming from the steel manufacturing industry is key.
This could be from steel itself, fencing material production, or building product manufacturing facilities.
To be successful in obtaining this role you will have the following:
5+ years Operations Management experience in the Steel Manufacturing industry.
A mechanical aptitude and understanding of Shear, Slit, and Roll forming machinery.
Experience in directly managing, leading, and engaging a high performing team.
Proven ability to continuously improve business processes.
Proficiency in production management software and tools and adept in lean manufacturing principles and practices.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and resilience enabling you to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
Your leadership and interpersonal skills allow you to engage and collaborate with clients and team members to build on well-established relationships.
A customer-centric approach with an aptitude to translate customers' key requirements into new and improved product service solutions.
An understanding of the linkage between production, supply chain, and logistics streams and the ability to develop strategies which align with current capability with our customers and market requirements.
Demonstrated commercial acumen including the ability to understand and manage budgets.
Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to be flexible within the workplace and work effectively within a team environment.
A bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing or relevant experience in manufacturing or production management.
