Principal Policy Officer, Long-Stay Patients

We have multiple exciting permanent flexible full-time opportunities for you to join our System Policy Branch based in Brisbane CBD.
Lead a range of strategic policy and program activities and projects to enable Queensland Health's response to long-stay patients.
The Principal Policy Officer, long-stay policy and program unit, leads a range of strategic policy and program activities and projects to enable Queensland Health's response to long-stay patients.
You will undertake research, environmental scanning and critical analysis to identify and advise on future strategic policy challenges, opportunities, priorities and issues including intradepartmental and interdepartmental policy priorities.
Initiate and manage, in consultation with key stakeholders (Commonwealth and State), the development of strategic policies that address priority health issues, population groups and reforms in the health system.
Establish and maintain networks with internal and external stakeholders, including with experts in relevant policy areas to obtain accurate and timely advice and guidance regarding the development and implementation of policy.
You will provide expert advice and support on the development of strategic and statewide policy and issues for Queensland Health that is consistent with strategic priorities and prepare high-level briefing documents, submissions, correspondence and reports.
The successful person The successful applicant will have a proven track record in managing policy projects to a timeline and, at times, working autonomously to achieve this.
You will have strong writing skills and be experienced at preparing policy materials for a range of audiences.
You will have exceptional communication skills and a demonstrated ability to negotiate with, and influence, a broad range of stakeholders, including Hospital and Health Service clinicians and senior leaders, to achieve high-quality policy outcomes.
You will have demonstrated:
high-level strategic, conceptual, critical thinking and analytical skills relevant to a range of social and health priority areas and a proven track record in identifying, negotiating, influencing and implementing solutions to complex problemsthe ability to manage projects, undertake research, interpret trends and provide detailed critical analysis of reports, discussion papers and other documentation and to provide advice on policies and strategies;high-level verbal communication skills, including experience confidently and clearly negotiating and presenting complex concepts and advice to internal and external stakeholders;high-level written communication skills, including ability to autonomously compile complex policy-related reports, discussion papers, submissions, and ministerial correspondence to a high quality.About us The Department of Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland.
