Employment Type: Temporary Various Remuneration: 89,095.00 - 139,187.00 Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM24119 Advanced Trainee in Palliative Medicine: Community Term The Advanced Trainee in Palliative Medicine will provide quality Supportive and Palliative healthcare to people and families in their homes, community center clinics, and to RACF residents under supervision, while developing a broad knowledge of the principles and practice of palliative medicine and a satisfactory level of competence in palliative medicine as required for Advanced Training.
This position will have supervision from specialist medical staff whilst undertaking learning and professional development as outlined by the Chapter of Palliative Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Where you'll be working This is an opportunity to work in the Community Term: Advanced Trainee in Palliative Medicine in the WSLHD working with the Community Palliative Care Service (including our Residential Aged Palliative Care In Reach Service) within the broader WSLHD specialist Supportive and Palliative Care service.

The WSLHD Supportive and Palliative Care Service consists of a high functioning team of specialist physicians, nurses, physical and psychosocial allied health specialists, aboriginal and cultural palliative care health workers, pastoral care workers, community nurses, and volunteers working in various sectors including:
Acute Inpatients facilities: Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals with inpatient and busy consultation services,Subacute specialist inpatient units (Auburn and Mt Druitt PCU,)WSLHD Integrated and Community Health Supportive Care Nursing ServiceResidential Aged Care Specialist Palliative Care In reach service.Specialist Supportive Care services (Renal and Cardiology)What you'll be doing The Trainee will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes Senior and junior medical, nursing, and allied health professionals delivering holistic care to patients and their families, in the setting of life-limiting illness with complexity of symptoms and/or End of Life Care needs.
They will have the opportunity to develop their skills in assessing and managing the physical and psychosocial symptoms, and complications of life-limiting illnesses and Palliative Care emergencies, and in communication with patients and families in this setting.The Trainee will need to have the ability to move between services and geographical locations to deliver patient care given it is a community term.The trainee will work closely with the patient's General practitioner and other involved clinicians (other specialists, WSLHD clinicians and/or the RACF staff) in developing this care plan for the person and support for their carers/family.The Trainee must work effectively within the Supportive and Palliative care MDT to ensure delivery of holistic Care to our patients and their families, and interact professionally with clinicians outside of the hospital, including GP's and community nurses.The Trainee will participate in an on-call weekend roster of 1:4 or less across the LHD well supported by the Senior Physicians in the service.The Trainee is directly responsible to the supervising Supportive and Palliative Medicine Specialists attending Community Clinic and through them to the WSLHD Director of Supportive and Palliative Medicine.Employee Benefits

The successful applicant will attend the weekly education program with other advanced trainees in the LHD and may remotely attend Grand Rounds at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals via MS teams/zoom, and other.
Minimum Requirements MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of AustraliaRACP advanced trainees (Palliative Medicine and other subspecialties), Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine trainees, Clin.
Diploma of Palliative Medicine (RACP) trainees, Faculty of Pain Medicine trainees and Family Medicine Program trainees or as detailed under Qualifications aboveCompleted at least four years residency since graduation or as deemed adequate by the Director of Supportive and Palliative MedicineCurrent Drivers licenseProven satisfactory clinical performance, supported by submissions of two current refereesDemonstrated sound, effective communication skills with patients, medical and surgical colleagues and other staffDemonstrated commitment to own personal and professional developmentA professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters and the required rotations both between services and geographical location to deliver patient care (including rural locations if applicable to the stream)Need more information?
