Location ProfileYarrabah School is a newly built school located in the beautiful bayside suburb of Aspendale only 500 meters from the sandy beaches of Aspendale and Mordialloc.
Yarrabah School caters for students aged between 2.8 and 18 years who have a diagnosed intellectual disability ranging from moderate to profound.
Yarrabah School is a single campus Pre K - 12 school organised around four distinct stages of learning including Early Years (2.8 - 6), Primary Years (Ages 7 - 12), Lower Secondary Years (Ages 13 - 15) and Upper Secondary (16 - 18).
Purpose: Yarrabah's purpose is to provide an individualised and safe student-centred learning environment that promotes active learning and encourages adventure, independence and self-esteem maximising student potential.
The school provides all students access to the curriculum and therapeutic support in preparation for life after school as valued members of the community.
Selection CriteriaDemonstrated experience in assessing, conceptualising and analysing well-being concerns, and providing evidence-based direct counselling for a range of well-being and mental health issues.Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing evidence-based intervention strategies for clients with complex needs.Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively with a wide range of people within the educational community.Ability to provide professional learning that informs and influences the work of others involved in the engagement and well-being of children and young people.A clear understanding of legislative requirements regarding the privacy of health information.Provide copies of qualification(s) and required professional body registrations.RoleThe role may include but is not limited to:
Deliver professional support services in the school, including direct counselling for students with various well-being and mental health issues.Plan and implement evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs including collaborating with families, school staff, other professionals and agencies when appropriate, and manage the associated risks.Conduct individual assessments for students with a range of complex needs as requested by the Principal or the Wellbeing Leader.
Risk assessments may be included depending on the level of competency the applicant has.Provide feedback and support for staff including discussion, modelling and guidance regarding the implementation of recommendations.Provide feedback and support for families regarding individual students.Liaise with and advise teachers, Education Support staff, and parents/carers regarding the support and intervention needs of students assigned to you.Liaise with internal and external agencies to maximise outcomes for students and their families.Assist in the development and support the implementation of a variety of plans based on student needs.Assist in providing documents (e.g.
behaviour support plan, therapy letter, specialist letter/report) for the Disability Inclusion funding Tier 3 applicants.Provide professional learning to others, such as teachers and other staff, to build the capacity of the school to improve student's learning and developmental outcomes.Provide professional advice and support to Principal Class, school staff and families that will enhance the learning, development and well-being of students, particularly those who are most vulnerable.Participate in the schools Wellbeing Team meeting, and work collaboratively, under the direction of the Wellbeing Leader.
This includes case referrals, case discussions, and agenda items for the Wellbeing Team or school.Where required, participate in Student Support Group meetings to assist in the implementation of meeting actions.Maintain accurate and detailed case notes and student files in accordance with school guidelines.When required, work collaboratively with the school to contribute to policies and operational practices that will guide the work of others, including other school well-being staff and teachers.Maintain professional competence and continued professional learning, including attending professional development activities throughout the year.Meet relevant policies and legislative requirements in relation to student health information privacy.Engage in non-social work as a staff member of the school, e.g.
morning gate yard duty, whole school professional learning.ResponsibilitiesDeliver professional support service/s at Yarrabah school, including direct counselling and risk assessments for students with a range of well-being and mental health issues, applying sound theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.Work collaboratively with the school Wellbeing Team under the guidance of the Wellbeing Leader and contribute to policies and operational practices that will guide the work of others.Provide evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs including collaborating and working with families, other professionals and agencies when appropriate, and manage the associated risks.Provide information to education staff and parents on student's social and emotional progress when required.Facilitating group work programs based on the needs of the cohort at any given time.Provide professional learning to school staff, to build the capacity of schools to improve students' well-being, and learning outcomes.Maintain professional competence and continued professional learning, including attending professional development activities throughout the year.Who May ApplyApplicants must:
hold a Bachelor qualification or specialist/postgraduate qualification where applicable in:Social WorkPsychology.have demonstrated direct counselling experience.have a current Working With Children Check.For Social Workers, applicants must be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Psychologists applicants must hold full registration with AHPRA.
