Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre – Shellharbour Village NSW
As Australia's first Women's Trauma Recovery Centre (the 'Centre') offering long-term support to women who have experienced domestic family and sexual violence, we intend to continually refine and improve our services to ensure we are supporting women to live independent, secure lives with hope and optimism.
We're searching for a Communications Officer who aligns with our vision and values and is ready to transform the lives of our clients.

As the Communications Officer, you will play a vital role in shaping both our internal and external communications.
You will develop and execute strategic communication plans, ensuring that our messaging is consistent and impactful.

About us:
The Centre is a community-led initiative, co-designed with women with lived expertise, professional experts, and service providers to offer free comprehensive and long-term support to women recovering and healing from the trauma of domestic, family, and sexual violence.

The Centre is a project of the Illawarra Women's Health Centre.
Established in 1986, we are nationally accredited and provide a safe place for women to access specialised high-quality women's medical and health care services.

Where you will channel your energy:
Develop and implement innovative strategies that celebrate our organisational culture, boost employee engagement, and ensure seamless communication among staff.
Create and distribute internal news, announcements, and updates to keep employees informed about key initiatives and events.
Partner closely with department heads to gather insights and ensure our messaging is aligned and impactful.
Establish and maintain The Centre's unique voice and tone across all communication channels, ensuring our brand identity shines through in every message and interaction.
Design and implement comprehensive communication strategies for major projects, events, and campaigns.
Develop and execute a vibrant social media strategy that showcases The Centre's activities and initiatives across various platforms, amplifying our reach and engagement with the community.
Produce captivating content including graphics and videos that not only engages our audience but also enhances our overall visibility.
Monitor social media channels for mentions and trends, promptly responding to inquiries and managing our online reputation.
Craft compelling messaging for external audiences through press releases, blog posts, and marketing materials that reflect our mission and values.
Manage relationships with media representatives and community partners to enhance The Centre's visibility and reputation.
About YOU:
A deep commitment to the vision and values of the Illawarra Women's Health Centre, with a genuine desire to support women in their healing journey.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Bring your 3+ years of communications expertise, ideally within a non-profit or community-oriented setting, to help us drive our message forward.
Showcase your proven track record in managing social media platforms and creating engaging content that sparks conversations and builds community.
Your outstanding writing, editing, and verbal communication abilities will be essential in crafting compelling narratives that resonate with our audience.
Well-honed interpersonal skills that enable you to interact effectively with staff across all levels and work collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.
Demonstrated success in working effectively within diverse teams will help us thrive together.
Your capacity to cultivate meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is key to our collaborative approach.
Share our commitment to feminist, socially just, and anti-racist principles as we work together to create change.
Your ability to engage confidently with stakeholders will help us amplify our voice and reach.
The nice to haves (desirable knowledge and experience):
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and web analytics is a valuable asset that can help us elevate our mission.
We welcome candidates with experience working within and advocating for diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ individuals, migrants, and those who are culturally, linguistically, or neurodivergent.
Fluency in a community language besides English is a significant advantage, allowing us to connect with a broader audience.
A demonstrated knowledge of contemporary issues surrounding family, domestic, and sexual violence, including the trauma associated with gender-based violence and abuse, is essential for this role.
Previous work in feminist not-for-profit organisations or social enterprises will enrich our team dynamic and enhance our impact.
What we do for you:
Work with Purpose: Be part of a passionate and highly regarded not-for-profit organisation dedicated to making a real difference in the community.
Flexible Salary Packaging: Take advantage of our flexible salary packaging options to maximise your take-home pay.
Extra Leave: Enjoy additional leave during the festive season, on top of standard leave entitlements, giving you more time to relax and recharge.
Wellness Leave: Prioritise your physical and mental well-being with four days of dedicated wellness leave each year.
Professional Development: Access a wealth of ongoing learning opportunities and career development programs to help you grow and excel in your role.
How to Apply:
At the Centre we truly value our people.
We are committed to offering more than just a job; we offer benefits to enhance your career, help you grow, and celebrate your achievements.

The Centre welcomes all women to come exactly as they are.
As a women's only organisation under Section 30 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, being female is a genuine occupational requirement for this position.
Specifically, The Centre encourages and supports women living with a disability to apply and welcomes discussions about any reasonable adjustments that may be needed.
Although this is an open recruitment process, The Centre strongly encourages, supports, and welcomes applications from women who identify as First Nations people/Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

* Please note that having a criminal record will not automatically exclude your application.
We recognise that women can have experiences with the criminal justice system that are discriminatory and unjust.
We know, for example, that women can, and often are, misidentified as a primary offender in domestic and family violence situations.
We will require a Working with Children Check and adherence to The Centre's workplace policies, including our Covid Policy.

To submit your application, please click 'Quick Apply'.

Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre is an equal opportunity employer.
Applications from diverse backgrounds are encouraged.
