Located at the Australian Centre for Robotics on the Darlington Campus Opportunity to investigate and develop downhole sensing technologies for use in production to enable improvements in mine production operations and product value Base Salary $99,455 - $107,216 p.a.
(HEO6) + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Australian Centre for Robotics is seeking a Technical Officer with a background in mechanical or electro-mechanical systems, and experience in assisting or performing experiments, to support cutting-edge research within the Rio Tinto Centre for Mine Automation.
This role focuses on the development, implementation, and operation of equipment for research, aimed at advancing automated material and geological sensing technologies.
You will collaborate closely with researchers, and engineers to ensure that systems are practical, and aligned with research goals.
This includes balancing the use of innovative sensing technologies with considerations for deployment in real-world environments, such as mining operations.
In addition to strong technical expertise in mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, this role requires good communication and collaboration skills.
You will report to the Lead Technical Engineer and the Downhole-Sensing-Technology Research Lead and work alongside a range of academic researchers and industry experts, providing technical support for experiments.
Your key responsibilities will be to: report to the Lead Technical Engineer and the Downhole-Sensing-Technology Research Lead design and realise electro-mechanical hardware related to laboratory and field instrumentation design or assist in the design of experiments execute experiments to explore different sensor technologies and modalities.
This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute directly to applied research at the intersection of sensing technologies and automation.
You will play a critical part in enabling transformative research outcomes while building your expertise in developing and operating advanced research equipment.
