About us: Thomas Wing S Wong, established in 2000, a premier horse training professional in NSW, Australia.
We are a boutique racing stable based at Clarendon NSW.
Thomas Wing S Wong's operations are multifaceted, encompassing two primary aspects.
Firstly, the company actively engages in competitive horse racing sanctioned by Racing Australia, a governmental body dedicated to supporting the sport and rewarding horse owners with substantial prize money.
As a dedicated horse owner, the company works closely with a diverse clientele, both local and international, who entrust us with the training and care of their valuable horses.
The company has successfully trained thoroughbred racehorses that have gone on to achieve notable victories in Australia.
Secondly, we are helping owners from Asia to buy young horses in Australia, educate them, and bring them to a 3 or 4 year old stage before exporting them to Asia.
Position overview: Thomas Wing S Wong now seeking an experienced and dedicated horse trainer to join our team.
This is a full-time role offering above-award wages for the right candidate.
The successful applicant will play a vital role in the day-to-day care and management of our horses and facilities.
Requirement: Qualification: Certificate III including at least three years of on-the-job training, or at least five years of relevant experience.
Experience: At least 3 years' previous experience working with horses and in the equine industry is essential.
Skills: Strong horse-handling skills and an understanding of horse behavior.
Teamwork: Ability to work well within a team and independently when required.
Reliability: Punctuality, attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards of care, hard-working and enthusiastic.
Language: Apart from English, functional Cantonese and Mandarin are compulsory, because 90% of our clients are in the Asian region.
License: A valid license to take horses to the race course throughout New South Wales is must.
Tasks and Responsibilities: Training Horses: being able to carry out daily training routines, swimming horses, and timed work.
Ensuring the well-being of horses: vigilantly overseeing the welfare of horses, maintaining meticulous health records, and working closely with veterinarians and farriers to address any health concerns promptly.
Collaborating with other equine professionals to provide the best possible care for horses, ensuring they are in optimal health and condition.
Grooming: helping groom horses regularly, ensuring their coats are clean and healthy, and offering grooming recommendations to horse owners.
Stable upkeeping: ensuring that stables are kept tidy and that waste disposal is managed efficiently.
By maintaining a clean environment, trainers help prevent health issues and create a safe and comfortable space for horses to live in.
Dietary management: devising tailored nutritional regimes for horses, supervising their diets to ensure they receive the necessary nutrients for optimal performance.
Liaising with feed suppliers, monitoring horses' food intake, and adjusting their diets as needed to help horses stay in peak physical condition.
Developing training regimens: formulating and supervising training schedules that focus on improving horses' skills and abilities, creating structured training programs that target specific areas of improvement, and helping horses reach their full potential in various disciplines such as dressage, show jumping, or racing.
Competitive strategies: devising race strategies that give horses a competitive edge.
Working closely with racing authorities to stay updated on the latest protocols and regulations, ensuring that horses compete fairly and within the rules.
Selecting optimal race strategies and maintaining good communication with stakeholders, helping horses achieve success on the track.
Documenting: maintaining meticulous financial records to track expenses and income related to their training activities, adhering to precise accounting protocols to ensure that financial transactions are handled accurately and transparently.
Providing expert guidance: offering support in various aspects such as horse auctions and equine well-being, advising horse owners on matters related to the care and status of their horses, helping them make informed decisions that benefit the well-being and performance of their equines.
Facilitating auctions: attending horse auctions with our clients from Asia.
Liaise with veterinarians for the selection of horses at the auctions.
