The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We're focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It's all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.
About the role: The Regulatory Officer supports the assessment of permit and license applications and notifications for the Health Regulator branch. These may include complex Schedule 8 and Schedule 9 permit applications, notifications and warrants.
The role will also liaise with Health Regulator compliance leads as needed on permit and licensing applications that require a physical visit to assess such as Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT), private hospitals, and day procedure centres.
The Health Regulator branch in the People, Operations, Regulation and Legal division regulates the following sectors:
CemeteriesChild Safety RegulationFirst Aid ServicesFoodHuman Tissue and Gene TechnologyMedicines and PoisonsPrivate hospitals and day procedure centresRadiationTobacco and E-CigarettesWaterWorkforce.How you'll make a difference: Support the assessment of permit and license applications and notifications for the Health Regulator branch in the following regulatory areas: medicines and poisons, Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT), private hospitals, day procedure centres.Ensure operational and practice initiatives meet the strategic directions for managing and delivering high-quality services.Drive continuous improvement in the review and development of team policies and processes.Monitor and analyse the implementation and delivery of practical and policy initiatives.Assist in the development of a risk-based regulatory approach to legislation administered by the Branch.Provide expert and authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative program options and solutions to complex and sensitive issues.Formulate compliance and evaluation strategies to address specific issues related to the effective provision and implementation of required outcomes.Undertake high-level research and investigations into service delivery issues, risks and trends impacting on achieving key business objectives, policy initiatives and operational imperatives.Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate: Additional tertiary qualification in a relevant health field (Ahpra registered health professional – pharmacy/nurse/paramedic/allied health) would be highly regarded.Experience in regulatory and public policy work as well as knowledge of relevant government legislation.What we offer: The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service & Sector.A strong commitment to work-life balance, including a diverse array of flexible working arrangements.How to apply: Applications should include a resume and a cover letter.
