This role is an excellent opportunity to guide a high-performing team and help shape the future of O&G services, ensuring that we meet the needs of a diverse and multicultural population across our six campuses.
With a catchment area that speaks over 150 languages and a high proportion of complex and high-risk cases, this leadership role will be key in overseeing the delivery of exceptional care while also identifying any gaps in service provision.
As the department continues to evolve to meet the region's growing demand for services, this role will be at the forefront of this transformation.

Our Women's & Children's Division plays a critical role, delivering services across maternity, gynaecology, neonatal, and paediatric care.

As Western Health continues to grow, particularly in Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, we are preparing for the increasing demand in the next few years.
This will include significant population growth and an anticipated increase in births that will surpass other hospitals in the region.
About the Role: The Head of Unit, Gynaecology Obstetrics will provide visionary leadership to the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department, ensuring that clinical services are of the highest standard and meet the needs of the community.
This position will involve managing and mentoring medical staff, overseeing operational performance, ensuring quality governance, and implementing strategic initiatives in line with Western Health's goals.
Key responsibilities will include: Leadership & Team Development: Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the O&G team, ensuring recruitment, retention, and professional development strategies are in place.
You will support staff to build trust and cohesion while maintaining a focus on clinical excellence.Clinical Excellence & Governance: Ensure that all clinical care is delivered in line with best practice guidelines and Western Health's clinical governance frameworks.
Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in clinical audits and incident reviews to ensure continuous safety and care improvements.Strategic Planning & Operations: Develop and implement operational plans that align with the strategic goals of Western Health, including managing budgets, meeting KPIs, and ensuring operational efficiency.Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with neonatal and paediatric teams to ensure integrated care for high-risk patients, including mothers and babies with complex medical needs.Community-Centred Care: Lead initiatives to address gaps in care for our diverse patient population, ensuring that services are accessible and culturally sensitive, and meet the needs of the community.About You: We are looking for a leader with significant clinical and managerial experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ideally in a complex tertiary hospital setting.
You should be able to demonstrate strong leadership, particularly in high-volume environments, and have a track record of driving performance improvement, building cohesive teams, and ensuring clinical excellence.
To be successful in this role, you will have: Specialist registration in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with AHPRA (or equivalent), with extensive clinical experience in a tertiary hospital environment.Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary teams, fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture.Strong understanding of clinical governance, accreditation, and quality improvement processes.Experience managing high-risk obstetric and gynaecological services, with an ability to respond to the diverse and complex needs of a multicultural patient population.International or Domestic experience in large, high-volume centres will be highly regarded.A strategic approach to service development and the ability to manage operational and financial performance.You will bring both clinical expertise and leadership skills to the role, with a focus on building the team and helping to shape the department's future direction.
You will also have the ability to navigate the challenges of delivering healthcare to a diverse community while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
