YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE Ongoing Full Time Role. The Molecular Pathology Laboratory in the Department of Pathology is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team to help support the molecular diagnostic service.
The position will be within our preanalytics section involved in registration and processing of specimens for molecular testing.
The ongoing full-time position presents an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable experience in this rapidly growing field.Suitable candidates will be highly motivated and self-driven, and possess a relevant diploma/degree in science with genetics or molecular biology experience preferred.
Previous experience working in an accredited Pathology laboratory with specimen registration would be an advantage.
This role is Permanent full-time 80 hours a fortnight with ADO.
Position SummaryTo provide technical support to the molecular pathology department.
Key duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to): specimen receipt and accessioning, handling histology slides and paraffin blocks for molecular studies, DNA / RNA extraction and quantitation, tissue microdissections, tissue cultureperforming standard molecular assays including: PCR, ddPCR, QPCR, HRM, Sanger Sequencing, MLPA, Next Generation Sequencingoperation and maintenance of equipmentgeneral laboratory dutiesKey RelationshipsInternal: Clinicians, genetic counsellors, researchers, and pathology scientistsExternal: Clinicians, external clients and institutions
EducationDiploma in Laboratory Technology
Skills Demonstrable ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.Prior experience working in a diagnostic pathology laboratory.Demonstrable experience in performing one or more molecular assays including: PCR, ddPCR, QPCR, HRM, Sanger Sequencing, MLPA, Next Generation Sequencing.Demonstrable experience in one or more of specimen receipt and accessioning, handling histology slides and paraffin blocks for molecular studies, DNA / RNA extraction and quantitation, tissue microdissections, tissue culture.Key Accountabilities1.
Perform sample receipt and accessioning for all molecular pathology specimens2.
Tissues prepared for microdissection and DNA digested3.
Prepare DNA and RNA from samples4.
Establish and maintain cell lines5.
Handling of clinical trial and referred specimens6.
Maintenance and operation of equipment7.
Performs general laboratory duties8.
Work practices are in accordance with the laboratory quality systems and procedures9.
Recognises and reports any laboratory problems to senior scientific staff10.
Quality Assurance11.
Helps maintain external client base12.
