The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV), previously known as the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water, is at the forefront of driving sustainable growth across Queensland.

The Role The Director Water Planning and Science is responsible for all water planning activities required for the 11 water plans located within the south region.
Water plans are developed under the Water Act 2000 to sustainably manage and allocate water resources in Queensland.
The position also leads the delivery of aquatic ecology science programs to inform the planning process and First Nations engagement.
Key Accountabilities: Lead a team of over 30 staff to deliver water planning and implementation of science functions/First Nations engagement within South Region.Contribute to the development and review of water plans and Ministerial Reports for the 11 water plans in south region.Undertake technical assessments (environmental, economic, social, hydrologic, and cultural data), as well as extensive stakeholder engagement to understand and plan for further water needs.Engage with the Commonwealth on accredited water resource plans and other Commonwealth related matters.Represent the department at both key state and national water initiatives and forums.Deliver science related programs to support water planning and intergovernmental agreements.Lead engagement with First Nations people to understand and deliver indigenous water reserves.About You Experience in water planning or water policy and management of multiple programs of work.Strong team leadership and planning experience to enable the business to thrive.Project management experience with Power BI is well regarded.Lead strategically with excellent stakeholder relationship building skills to represent the department at national water initiatives and forums.Travel away from the centre may be required.Hold a current "C" class driver's licence.We believe our workforce should represent the community we serve.
