Biochemistry/molecular Biology Research Technician

Full Time (40 h/w)

Your Responsibilities

The Praetorius group specializes in biomolecular design with proteins and nucleic acids. We use deep learning-based computational design tools to generate new proteins from scratch. To test and characterize these de novo designed proteins in the wet lab, we have established a pipeline for medium-throughput cloning, expression, and protein purification in 96-well format. We then use biochemical and biophysical methods to functionally characterize our designed proteins. The position will be centered around maintaining and assuring the overall efficient running of the laboratory and our experimental pipelines. We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:

- Taking a lead position in the lab organization (training users, managing stocks, ordering consumables, implementing lab safety procedures, keeping our database up to date)
- Implementation of new equipment and techniques in the wet laboratory and assistance in experimental setups
- Supervising our experimental pipelines for cloning, E.coli expression and protein purification in 96- and 24-well formats (includes training team members on these procedures)
- Establishing biochemical and biophysical assays to characterize de novo designed proteins
- Maintaining lab infrastructure including HPLC (Agilent 1260) and FPLC (Äkta pure) setups and liquid handlers (OT-2 and Echo 525)
- Mediating interactions with our Scientific Service Units (Lab Support facility, Molecular Biology Services, Mass Spec facility)
- Supporting internal and external users with using laboratory infrastructure and reporting results
- Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs, and technicians with diverse backgrounds

Your Profile
- Completed studies/PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or other relevant fields
- Experience with molecular cloning and recombinant expression in E. coli
- Experience with protein purification (Affinity chromatography, SEC)
- Experience in characterizing proteins with biophysical and biochemical methods
- Experience with parallelized assays in plate format and automation is a plus
- Strong organizational skills, reliability and a sense of responsibility are required
- Proactive personality with a solution-oriented approach
