- The work of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is guided by a broad range of international legally binding instruments and a set of United Nations standards and norms on crime prevention and criminal justice. UNODC is the guardian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) are the governing bodies of UNODC and the central policymaking organs within the United Nations system dealing with drug
- and crime-related matters. Through its GLOU68 programme - “Civil Society Global Programme” - UNODC Civil Society Unit (CSU) serves as a bridge between civil society, UNODC field offices, substantive offices and Member States. The main goal of the UNODC CSU is to ensure that non-government stakeholders (civil society organizations, academia and the private sector) contribute to the prevention and combating of corruption, crime and terrorism prevention, and addressing the world drug problem, by supporting Member States in the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the UN Convention against Transnational organized Crime (UNTOC) and its related protocols, the 19 Universal legal instruments against terrorism, as well as the three drug Conventions in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Unit operates under the Office of the Director of Policy Analysis and Public Affairs at UNODC. The GLOU68 programme has two main segments, namely: drugs and crime, with the latter encompassing corruption, cybercrime, and transnational organized crime. On crime related issues, the UNODC Civil Society Unit (CSU) is implementing two projects on stakeholder engagement (SE4U) for the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. As such, UNODC is building the capacity of CSOs, private sector, and academia to support Member States in a successful implementation of the UNTOC Review Mechanism. Furthermore, the CSU aims to improve effective partnerships between the public and private sectors with a view to assisting the implementation of the Convention. The anti-corruption component of the GLOU68 programme aims to strengthen the voices of civil society in the national and international fight against corruption by facilitating their participation in intergovernmental meetings, trainings and grant schemes, specifically as related to the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption and its Review Mechanism. Through the Cybercrime Stakeholder Engagement Initiative, the programme is supporting stakeholders’ participation in and contribution to the Ad Hoc Committee on Cybercrime. On drug-related mandate, the programme facilitates the participation of CSOs in intergovernmental meetings of the CND and builds their capacity on international drug policy instruments. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, the incumbent will perform the following tasks: - Provide assistance in the development of video content, web and database management for the activities of the CSU, especially for the implementation of the WhatsOn online platform. - Support members’ interaction on WhatsOn and manage the registrations of profiles on the platform. - Under the Programme Officer’s guidance, provide content management and maintenance support on CSU’s web page and communication channels, including drafting social media posts for X, web-stories and user content using various communications tools. - Under the Programme Officer’s guidance, provide editorial support for publications, reports and speeches. - Conduct technical and online content presentations related to areas of responsibility.
- Qualifications/special skills
- High school diploma is required. - A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in media and communications is required. - A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in web development and programming is desirable. - Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with strong drafting ability is required. - Experience with international organisations is desirable. - Solid experience in graphic design is desirable. - Solid experience of content development and web-based knowledge hubs is desirable.
- Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
