Mechanical Design Engineer – OptionX Bournedrill OptionX Bournedrill, part of the OptionX Group, designs and manufactures cutting-edge equipment for the drilling, tunnelling, and boring industry. You’ll oversee mechanical engineering projects from concept to completion and work on innovative technology developed in-house. What you’ll do Lead and manage the Mechanical Design Engineering function. Collaborate with senior leadership to align engineering with strategic objectives. Act as the main contact for all mechanical engineering projects. Oversee design projects from concept through to delivery; on time, within scope and on budget. Provide technical expertise on complex challenges, including FEA and system integration. Ensure compliance with customer requirements, Australian Standards, and internal processes. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate across departments and engage with customers and vendors. What you’ll bring Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (postgraduate or leadership training preferred). 5+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (Inventor preferred), FEA software, and project management tools. In-depth knowledge of Australian engineering standards and regulatory requirements. Hands-on experience in drilling or vacuum trucks, plus solid hydraulic systems experience. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. High level of organisation, accuracy, and attention to detail.
