Director of Nursing – Forensic Mental Health Location: Fairfield, VIC Work Type: Full-time Classification: Nursing – Management Salary: EBA aligned – RPN Grade 7, approx. $181,199p.a + super + benefits About the Role As Director of Nursing (DoN), you’ll provide high-level leadership and strategic oversight of Forensicare’s nursing workforce. You’ll champion evidence-based practice, psychological safety, and collaboration, ensuring our model of care puts patients, families, and carers at the heart of everything we do. Working closely with the Executive team, you’ll shape nursing culture, drive workforce capability, and lead innovation across forensic mental health services. Key Responsibilities Lead nursing workforce strategy, professional standards, and capability development Drive evidence-based practice and co‑designed service improvements Represent forensic mental health nursing in sector‑wide forums and initiatives Foster a culture of psychological safety, inclusion, and accountability Oversee nursing input into infection control, quality improvement, and accreditation About You Registered Nurse with a Graduate Diploma in mental health nursing and current practicing certificate with AHPRA (Division 1 or Division 3), with postgraduate qualifications in mental health nursing Demonstrated commitment to recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed mental health care and the delivery of person‑centred services within forensic settings Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in mental health nursing leadership and management, with a proven ability to lead complex change and drive service improvement Comprehensive understanding of mental health and forensic mental health nursing, including evidence‑based practice, scope of practice, and workforce development Strong strategic thinking and systems leadership skills Proven ability to lead complex change and foster collaboration Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills A copy of the position description can be accessed here — Director of Nursing About Forensicare Forensicare is Victoria’s specialist forensic mental health service, delivering care across prisons, courts, and community settings.
