Role Highlights As Manager Environment, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of environmental strategies, frameworks, policies and initiatives. This position partners with executives, senior leaders, and external regulators to influence organisational outcomes and achieve better environmental outcomes for Fremantle Ports and the community. In this diverse, hands‑on role, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead the Environmental Team to partner with the business to integrate environmental initiatives and educate the broader organisation. Establish and maintain a best‑practice Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with ISO 14001. Drive compliance and risk mitigation by developing and implementing plans to meet all environmental legislation and ensuring management/supervisors understand and uphold their responsibilities. Provide clear assurance to the Board, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and regulators through regular reporting on environmental performance, risk and compliance. Work collaboratively with other port users including operational and non‑operational tenants, licensees, customers, regulators and the public to maintain environmental standards. What Makes You a Great Fit Experience in pragmatically maintaining environmental management systems, frameworks, integrating financial and operational considerations in reaching decisions and positions on behalf of the business. Your effective leadership skills demonstrate your ability to lead, motivate and develop teams to ensure the achievement of strategic and operational objectives. You’ll also bring: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Management/Engineering or equivalent experience. Extensive experience in managing environmental matters, with a demonstrated ability to sustainably improve environmental outcomes across organisations. Extensive experience actively leading and developing a team. Knowledge and/or experience of relevant legislation, managing environmental compliance with regulators and obtaining environmental approvals. Demonstrated experience in managing and reporting on carbon emissions reduction and climate adaptation. Demonstrated understanding of sustainability reporting and experience in stakeholder engagement with respect to the environment. Strong skills in validating, interpreting and communicating environmental data to assist with key business decisions (to Executive and Board) at an organisational level (including both marine and terrestrial). Sound understanding of waste management practices and the circular economy especially relating to ports. Effective change management and influencing skills, especially as they relate to coaching and enabling a strong environmental culture and performance across an organisation. Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaboratively define, develop, implement and maintain a holistic approach to environmental management, including strategy, frameworks, systems, processes, procedures, tools and behaviours.
