About the job Champion Data has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dedicated Senior Java Developer to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract This role is critical to maintaining and supporting core business software during a major transition to a next-generation platform. You’ll be stepping into a well-established system, replacing a retiring team member, and will be the go-to expert during your shifts. The role demands strong technical depth, autonomy, and a proactive mindset to ensure reliability and performance of our software during high-profile live sporting events. This role requires working an on-call roster, covering live sporting events (AFL and more). Key Responsibilities Maintain and support legacy Java-based systems (Java 25, Gradle, Git and build pipelines) with the rest of the Java team Participate in an on-call support roster during AFL and other live sporting events (evenings/weekends) Investigate and resolve performance issues, provide post-event analysis and implement improvements Collaborate with operational teams to ensure systems are running as expected Contribute to comparative analysis between legacy and new systems Support other Java-based applications as needed across the business About You Senior-level experience in Java and related technologies (JSP, Jetty, Spring, REST APIs) Comfortable working independently and diving deep into complex codebases Strong troubleshooting and performance analysis skills Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and SQL (Oracle preferred) Agile team experience and excellent communication skills Why Champion Data For over 20 years, Champion Data has been at the forefront of delivering sports stats globally.
