Food Technology Assistant Full‑time or part‑time position at St Joseph’s College, a Catholic school in the Salesian tradition. Applications close on Tuesday 2 December; commencement is Tuesday 27 January 2026. Role Description / Criteria St Joseph’s College provides employees, volunteers and clergy with regular and appropriate opportunities to develop knowledge of, openness to and ability to address child safety matters. This includes induction, ongoing training and professional learning to ensure that everyone understands and is compliant with professional and legal obligations. The Food Technology Assistant works closely with the teachers of Food Technology and Food Studies and contributes to the overall success of this area. Loyalty to the College and its staff. Ability to work flexibly. Skills / Training Needed Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organisational skills. Good understanding of the operations of a secondary school. Excellent food handling skills. First Aid Level 2 (or willingness to obtain this). Anaphylaxis training – ASCIA e‑training for Victorian Schools with verification of practical application completed within 30 days, to be fully compliant. Completion of DET mandatory reporting e‑learning module (non‑government schools). Relevant food handling certificate highly desirable (e.g. Department of Health Victoria’s food safety course). Child Safe Standards Committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. Able to demonstrate an understanding of the Child Safe Standards and their legal obligations under the Ministerial Order No. 1359. Suitable person to be engaged in working with children and young people. Able to understand and commit to Child Safe Standards and expectations relating to Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), PROTECT, VRQA and VIT. Able to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Child Safety protocols, Codes of Conduct and to ensuring the Child Safe focus of St Joseph’s College. Duties Communicate requirements for equipment as required by the department. Communicate relevant matters to the Technology Leader. Set up materials/equipment for all practical classes. Assist teachers and students in all practical classes. Consultation with teachers re practical classes as required. Ensure all equipment and kitchens have been left clean and tidy before class is dismissed. Maintain order and cleanliness of kitchen, fridges, cool rooms and storerooms. Ensure all washing and drying of tea towels is completed at the end of each practical class. Clean cool rooms and storerooms at least once per term. Communicate any relevant matters to Maintenance (e.g. exhausts, air‑conditioners and ceiling fans to be cleaned). Administer online ordering. Assist with the maintenance of financial records of Food Technology expenditure. Clean ovens, stove tops and sides; cleaning of individual kitchens including equipment stored under sinks. Check all equipment is clean and in working order; check inventory to ensure all kitchens have required equipment. Check that appliances have all fittings; clean out fridges and cool rooms of all perishables as appropriate to term timeline; defrost relevant areas. Wash and dry items such as tea towels, tablecloths and first aid items (e.g. pillow slips, sheets). Assist (during work hours) with particular College events e.g. set‑up/pack‑up of catering items. Maintain milk and other supplies in staff areas with attention to term and holiday times. Other duties as advised by the Principal (or delegate) and/or Technology Leader, including general administrative duties. Key Performance Indicators Ability to complete duties in a professional and timely manner. Ability to demonstrate teamwork. Ability to respond effectively to constructive feedback. Ability to participate in an appropriate professional development plan. Terms and Conditions Salaries and conditions are set by CEMEA 2022. The position is Category B. It reports to the Technology Leader on a day‑to‑day basis, and ultimately to the Principal or Principal’s delegate. Part‑time approx. 0.8 FTE; hours and days to be determined. Revised May 2025.
