Test Engineer

Overview Services Australia is seeking to identify suitable candidates to perform the role of Test Engineers, from junior levels to expert and manager levels, to support the agency achieve overall testing strategies, managing effective planning, monitoring and execution of all testing activities within the agency. Test Engineers ensure that their test effort is effectively executed and that allocated activities are completed in a structured, consistent manner in accordance with agreed test guidelines. They use their in-depth knowledge to provide technical advice and development to less experienced testers. They exercise a degree of independent judgement and make decisions within defined parameters that require reliance on skills and knowledge. Test Engineers plan their own work and contribute to teamwork goals in the context of competing priorities, and changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies. The level of Security Clearance required for a role will be confirmed at the time of Contract. Job Title Test Engineer Main duties Duties may include, but are not limited to, some or all of the following: execute assigned test cases at various stages of testing on appropriate testing platforms develop test plans, test cases, task cards, and supporting test data and/or requirements, under own direction from the specifications provided analyse and report on test activities and results, and escalate issues and risks to senior staff contribute to team improvement initiatives and projects, including team tools, process changes, and test automation identify, manage and document defects, programming errors and operational characteristics that are inconsistent with stated requirements and design specifications conduct testing to ensure the ICT service functions as per requirements create test data within external software vendor environment accurately record time and effort for test cases allocate work to team members, using judgement to match issue complexity and staff capability provide assistance and training to less experienced testers support team to follow business processes and align to overall delivery outcomes maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICT related legislation, policy and processes and transfer knowledge to other team members collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective and timely implementation of projects provide advice and assistance to external software vendors in regard to testing and development of software assist with cost analysis activities as required Skills and attributes Skills for the Information Age (SFIA) required: Methods and tools METL - Level 4 Ability to: think strategically and identify broader influences that may impact on work and work area support and provide assistance to others build rapport and maintain stakeholder relationships investigate and respond to identified issues and escalate as needed clarify expectations and identify concerns communicate confidently and present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner manage time and organise work against performance expectations contribute towards team work plans analyse information and make recommendations based on evidence research and make sound decisions based on sound subject matter knowledge and judgement work independently and as part of a team under general direction prioritise competing tasks and work collaboratively to see tasks through to completion adapt to a changing environment and assist others to adapt.
