About the Position The Painting Trades Worker role at DPNR Paintings Pty Ltd is essential for executing hands-on painting tasks that directly contribute to the company's mission of creating stunning, long-lasting finishes for residential and commercial clients. This position encompasses surface preparation, paint application using various techniques and tools, and on-site setup to ensure efficient, safe project delivery, allowing the team to handle everything from small home refreshes to large-scale commercial jobs. By upholding high standards in every detail, the role plays a pivotal part in building client trust, enhancing property values, and reinforcing DPNR's standing as a reliable partner in Melbourne's vibrant construction and renovation landscape. Key Responsibilities Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings or other structures. Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors or homeowners regarding painting requirements. Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and remove old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorches to prepare for painting. Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using caulking guns or putty knives. Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning or drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colours. Remove fixtures such as pictures or electric switch covers from walls prior to painting using screwdrivers. Spread drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and cover surfaces like baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape or paper to protect them during painting. Paint surfaces using brushes, spray guns, or rollers. Simulate wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects as required. Apply paint with cloths, brushes, sponges, or fingers to create special decorative effects. Erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level. Requirements Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply. Certificate III in Painting and Decorating. 1 year of work experience in a similar painting or trades role. Strong technical skills, including proficiency in surface preparation techniques, paint mixing and colour matching, safe use of tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, and scaffolding, and knowledge of safety protocols for working at heights. Excellent interpersonal skills, such as clear communication with supervisors and clients, attention to detail for high-quality finishes, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team while maintaining a positive, adaptable attitude on diverse job sites.
