Overview Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, providing a range of public health services to the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Region. The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres offering services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and carers. Services span health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across centres, in people’s homes, other community venues and via telehealth. It involves identifying and assessing children in the community with speech, language, fluency, voice and feeding disorders, and managing these conditions through service delivery models such as parent training, individual and group therapy, and programming aligned with current practices. You will collaborate with families to establish and review therapy goals, provide culturally sensitive care, and liaise with health, education and welfare agencies for referrals and support. About the Role This is a Community Speech Pathology position focused on paediatric services within NBMLHD. Responsibilities Identify and assess children in the community with speech, language, fluency, voice and feeding disorders. Deliver services through models such as parent training, individual and group therapy, and programing aligned with current best practices. Collaborate with families to establish and review therapy goals; provide culturally sensitive care. Liaise with health, education and welfare agencies for referrals and support. Work with families to understand and implement therapy plans within available appointment models, including paediatric Speech Pathology services. Qualifications Degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligible for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Level 1: newly qualified Speech Pathologist with less than three years clinical experience; Level 2: minimum of three years clinical experience with ability to work with minimal supervision and experience in paediatric Speech Pathology services. Demonstrated experience in paediatric Speech Pathology and partnering with families to provide effective interventions, within a limited session model. Demonstrated ability to work with families from diverse psychosocial, socio-economic and/or culturally diverse backgrounds. Experience working in a multidisciplinary team within a community setting and understanding of primary health care principles. Understanding of child protection indicators and mandatory reporting responsibilities. Knowledge of information technology systems (e.g., CHIME, Cerner, Outlook) with willingness to undertake training in electronic health records as required. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use it for work travel, including potential long-distance travel within the Local Health District.
