Head of Collections & Engagement (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander), First Nations (Identified) Join the Australian Museum in the role of Head of Collections & Engagement (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander). The position is responsible for developing and implementing First Nations community engagement and policy; providing operational oversight; and overseeing stakeholder management to ensure best practice operations, care, and interpretation of tangible and intangible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage material held by the AM. Responsibilities include: Overseeing the First Nations Collections, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural collections and Aboriginal archaeology collection. Managing day‑to‑day collections operations in collaboration with the Senior Collection Officer, First Nations. Supporting the Director, First Nations in establishing and running the AM’s First Nations engagement work across AM sites, including the proposed Cultural Collections & Research Centre. Building strategic partnerships and fundraising efforts, and leading projects for the First Nations Division. Employment Details: Employment Status: Ongoing, Full‑time (35 hours per week) Salary: $149,739 – $173,174 per annum, plus superannuation contribution (12%) and annual leave loading. Qualifications & Experience: Preferably Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; this is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14(d) of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). Appropriate and relevant qualifications and/or extensive work experience in fields related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and community engagement; e.g., cultural heritage, community liaison, social work, or similar fields. Experience delivering programs to First Nations communities in social, recreational, school, or community settings, and ability to work in partnership or collaboration with other organisations.
