Title: Principal Licensing Officer Department: Department of Justice QLD Pay range $119,802.00/yr - $127,941.00/yr Seniority level Mid‑Senior level Employment type Full-time Job function Legal Industries Government Administration As the Principal Licensing Officer, you will support the delivery of responsive, risk‑based licensing services that balance community safety with industry development. The role requires a proactive individual with exceptional customer focus, keen attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently navigate competing priorities in a dynamic regulatory environment. Your key responsibilities Assess a range of licensing applications and provide procedural guidance and mentorship to team members on complex applications. Prepare clear and accurate advice to support licensing decisions, including written reports, briefings and correspondence on routine and complex matters. Assist with the preparation of materials for review proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Apply administrative and legislative frameworks to support the making of consistent and accountable licensing decisions and use knowledge of statutory interpretation and administrative law to make accurate and defensible recommendations to senior officers on intermediate to complex matters. Contribute to service improvement initiatives and other regulatory projects under the direction of senior staff, in line with project management methodologies. Support the day‑to‑day coordination of team workflows and provide guidance and informal mentoring to AO2‑AO5 staff to achieve operational objectives. Respond to complex enquiries and provide information to applicants and other stakeholders, escalating sensitive or complex issues as appropriate. Applications remain open for 12 months.
