Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine Consultant Overview Critical Care (Medical Team) within the Department of Health is seeking a Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine Consultant to lead and deliver specialist PHARM services to Ambulance Tasmania (AT). The role involves shift‑based, on‑call duties supporting the statewide Pre‑Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (PHRM) clinical service, coordination of emergency responses, and leadership in mass casualty incident planning. Responsibilities Provide 24‑hour clinical advice and retrieval coordination for AT paramedics, hospitals, and DoH staff. Deliver primary (pre‑hospital) and secondary (inter‑hospital) medical responses for critically ill and injured patients across road, helicopter, and fixed‑wing transport. Offer scene medical support for major incident and disaster responses. Conduct on‑site clinical care, including procedures, for adult and paediatric patients during retrieval missions. Lead and actively participate in multi‑casualty incident planning, exercises, and training of the CCR team. Support PHARM teaching, research, and continuous service development initiatives. Collaborate closely with the Tasmanian Health Service to maintain continuity of care and optimise retrieval system design. Qualifications Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty. Eligibility and commitment to maintain credentialing by the Tasmanian Health Service in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, or Intensive Care. Physical fitness sufficient to operate in pre‑hospital and aeromedical environments, including maintained helicopter underwater egress training (HUET) currency. Valid driver’s licence. Appreciated Skills and Experience Experience in pre‑hospital retrieval medicine or critical care medicine. Evidence of clinical leadership, decision‑making under pressure, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Strong communication skills for tele‑consultation, education, and incident command. Salary and Benefits Salary: $216,300 to $296,640 per annum (pro‑rata). Superannuation contribution 12 % on top of salary. Additional benefits include salary packaging options, paid study leave, professional development support, and access to fitness facilities. Employment Details Type: Fixed‑term, full‑time, shift‑based with on‑call roster. Hours: 38 hours per fortnight, commencing immediately and continuing until 31 July 2025 (hours negotiable).
