Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine Consultant L9) Join to apply for the Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine Consultant L9) role at Department of Health, Tasmania The Team Critical Care and Retrieval (CCR) provides a state‑wide Pre Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (PHRM) clinical service. Our medical team delivers pre‑hospital and in‑facility treatment, inter‑facility transport for seriously sick and injured people, medical coordination for mass casualty incidents, and a Critical Care Management and Advice Service (CCMAS) for paramedics, doctors and nurses. The Role Providing a specialist Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine (PHARM) service to Ambulance Tasmania (AT) through shift work and on‑call roster. Responsibilities Critical care and emergency management advice and inter‑hospital transport coordination for the Department of Health, including AT paramedics and DoH doctors and nurses. Primary (pre‑hospital) and secondary (inter‑hospital) medical responses for critically ill and injured patients. General support, education and professional development opportunities for AT paramedics and doctors. Telephone consult and retrieval coordination service: 24‑hour clinical advice for AT paramedics and medical retrieval coordination. Direct clinical care: medical care, including procedures, for adult and paediatric patients during primary and secondary medical retrieval missions by road, helicopter and fixed‑wing platforms; scene medical responses to major incidents and disasters. Service development: lead and actively participate in multi‑casualty incident/disaster planning and exercises, team scenario training, PHARM teaching and research activities, and liaison with the Tasmanian Health Service to ensure continuity of patient care and optimal retrieval system design. Requirements Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality. Eligible for and required to maintain credentialing by the Tasmanian Health Service in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia or Intensive Care. Reasonable level of physical fitness and ability to swim to function safely in pre‑hospital and aeromedical environments and maintain helicopter underwater egress training (HUET) currency. Current Driver’s Licence. Notes — Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all the selection criteria of this position. — For a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‑time, part‑time and casual vacancies. Details of Appointment Fixed‑term part‑time, shift work (fully rotational with on‑call) position, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 31 July 2026. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Salary $216,300 to $296,640 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range follows the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022. Salary Packaging You’ll have access to a salary package and a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year, and other eligible benefits.
