The Bankis ward is a 16‑bed inpatient unit for young people aged 13‑18 with mental health challenges. About Banksia Ward – Mental Health At Banksia, you’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes consultant psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, peer support workers and teachers with special education expertise to support young people in regaining stability, building resilience and returning to community. About the Role You will work part‑time (64 hours fortnightly) within the education team, leading, inspiring and developing our nursing staff. Your advanced clinical expertise and passion for education will role‑model excellence in mental health nursing, foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning, and support a transition program for up to three nurses moving into mental health nursing. What You’ll Achieve Contribute to a new transition-to-mental-health program and shape its delivery. Work alongside new and existing staff to deliver excellent mental‑health nursing care. Develop and engage high‑quality, reflective group and individual clinical supervision for nursing staff. Demonstrate a commitment to your clinical progression. Contribute to research opportunities by evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of nursing workforce education and training programs. Essential Qualifications Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA). Minimum of five years’ clinical experience, ideally within a mental health or acute care setting. Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing, or completion of a specialist undergraduate Mental Health Nursing program. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills—written and verbal—with the ability to adapt your approach, build rapport and foster a psychologically safe environment. Desirable Qualifications Extensive experience in acute adolescent mental health, demonstrating confidence and expertise in managing complex clinical presentations. Strong knowledge and application of contemporary theories and evidence‑based practices in mental health care, including managing challenging behaviours. Experience in clinical education, with a demonstrated ability to support, mentor and develop the knowledge and skills of nursing staff. Understanding of adult learning principles and a passion for developing others through education and training. Preceptorship experience, with the ability to mentor and support staff and students in their clinical learning. Proficiency in digital literacy, including strong computer skills and experience using learning management systems. What’s in it for you?
