Child Safety Officer

Overview The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety has permanent Child Safety Officer (CSO) roles available at the Fitzroy and Mt Archer service centres based in Rockhampton, Queensland. This frontline position focuses on the protection and welfare of children and youth. Graduates and career changers with experience or interest in being a social worker, youth worker, counsellor, or similar fields are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Work with children, young people and families to support safety, rights and wellbeing. Collaborate with Senior Team Leaders, CSSOs, and Cultural Practice Advisors to ensure safety across the region. Conduct risk assessments, develop case plans, and manage complex casework with team support. Engage with families, carers, other departments, community organisations, healthcare services, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to provide culturally respectful support. Maintain professional relationships and uphold privacy and confidentiality; write case notes; understand statutory responsibilities under the Child Protection Act 1999. What you get / Benefits Salary in the PO3 range circa A$101,286 – A$110,366 per year plus 12.75% superannuation. Flexible leave and time off in lieu (TOIL). What you need to be a CSO Applicants come from diverse backgrounds (social work, youth work, counselling, psychology, support work, etc.). The key requirement is a passion for keeping children safe. An Australian Driver’s Licence and legal right to work in Australia. A Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field; equivalent further study or work experience. Understanding of statutory role, including knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999; ability to write case notes while maintaining privacy. Previous departmental applicants are advised they will be subject to internal disciplinary checks. The role involves challenging but rewarding frontline work.
