Lead work to strengthen statewide community Youth Justice operations and practice collaborating with partner across government, the justice system and community. Contribute to improving the outcomes of young people's futures. The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the Victorian criminal justice system. Youth Justice is responsible for overseeing services responding to children and young people in the criminal justice system, providing strategic advice and delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending. The Community Operations & Practice Team provides leadership, oversight and advice to support the ongoing development of state-wide community-based youth justice services. Reporting to the Principal Policy Officer, the Senior Project Officer will deliver projects that support operational oversight and leadership; and continuous practice improvement and development across diversionary and statutory community youth justice services. The role will involve regular liaison with frontline, operational staff in community youth justice. The Opportunity Fixed term, full-time position until December 31 st 2026 based in Melbourne. VPS Grade 5 role: $113,022 - $136,747 per year plus superannuation. Lead, develop and deliver high priority projects within Youth Justice, with a focus on initiatives to ensure the safety, stability, and effectiveness of the community Youth Justice system. Project management for key projects and initiatives to ensure that objectives and commitments are met. Effectively and professionally represent Youth Justice and the DJCS with stakeholders at relevant forums both within and outside government, maintaining the professional reputation of Youth Justice. Identify and respond to new and emerging complex and sensitive issues with system wide impacts involving several internal and external stakeholders and requiring integrated solutions across the DJCS and other agencies. Provide high level and authoritative advice to departmental executives and Ministers on complex and potentially sensitive matters, including the delivery of priority operational projects, and prepare high quality and authoritative briefings, reports, and presentations. To be successful in this role you will have sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian government administrative processes with a proven track record in project design and delivery. You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
