Senior Writer / Editor, Technical Publications Join to apply for the Senior Writer / Editor, Technical Publications role at Civil Aviation Safety Authority This is your opportunity to be part of the Technical Publications Section producing quality guides and publications in plain English to assist the aviation community in understanding (and thus complying with) the aviation regulations. The role is based within the Communications Branch of the Stakeholder Engagement Division. The Communications Branch is responsible for CASA's communication activities, including public and industry consultation, communication strategies, media engagement, website and intranet management, social media, safety promotion, graphic design, video production, sponsorships, event management, and the development of plain English guides. Responsibilities Under limited direction, scope, develop and maintain plain English guides explaining complex aviation rules in a simple, easy-to-read style, delivering quality work that requires little revision before finalisation. Edit, peer review, and quality check content produced by other team members to ensure a high-quality end product that retains the intent of the regulations and aligns with the Australian Government Style Manual and accessibility requirements. Plan own work goals and priorities that align with team outcomes, and collaborate with team members to ensure project objectives and timelines are met. Maintain and apply knowledge of the Civil Aviation Act , Civil Aviation Safety Regulations , Civil Aviation Regulations , associated standards and policy, and CASA decision-making processes. Build and maintain effective relationships internally within the Communications Branch and with other CASA divisions, and externally with contractors and suppliers. Maintain and promote guidance material including safety information, education and training materials, advisory circulars, web-based information, and other duties as required. Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in accordance with CASA values and behaviours. Collaborate supportively and cooperatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve shared outcomes. Ideal Candidate Familiarity with the regulatory aspects of the aviation industry, preferably with an aviation licence and strong knowledge of at least one sector (e.g., flying operations or airworthiness). Ability to interpret a range of document types to bring technical information together in meaningful content for the specified user. Ability to develop and structure large documents considering the technical content and reader knowledge. Excellent command of written English, familiarity with writing to a style guide, intermediate word skills and meticulous attention to detail. Proven ability to work with minimal assistance, taking ownership of tasks and guiding / supporting others as required. Suitable people skills to develop new relationships within CASA. Strong organisational skills and the ability to contribute to continuous improvement of the product and processes. Demonstrated initiative and judgement in providing accurate technical knowledge and advice in a specialist discipline. Ability to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in a sensitive, respectful and equitable manner.
