Join to apply for the Test Engineer - Automation role at Origin Energy . About the role We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Test Engineer – Automation to join our delivery team. In this role, you will champion quality across the software development lifecycle by designing, building, and maintaining automated test frameworks and suites. As a servant leader in quality, you will collaborate closely with developers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and UX to ensure solutions are reliable, scalable, and meet customer expectations. You will play a critical role in accelerating delivery while safeguarding customer experience. Roles & Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain robust automated test suites for web, mobile, and API platforms. Build and optimise test frameworks that enable continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD). Ensure automation coverage across functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing. Continuously enhance automation practices by adopting modern tools, libraries, and coding standards. Quality Practices & Collaboration Partner with developers and Business Analysts early in the lifecycle to define testable acceptance criteria. Collaborate with the Product Owner and delivery team to ensure backlog items have clear quality expectations. Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and gaps in coverage, and work with the team to address them. Advocate for shift-left testing practices, embedding quality from the start of solution design. Support manual exploratory testing where required to complement automation coverage. Continuous Improvement & Delivery Contribute to the team’s agile ceremonies, providing quality insights during planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. Use metrics and reporting to provide visibility on quality trends, automation coverage, and release readiness. Actively troubleshoot and resolve automation failures, working with developers to identify root causes. Promote a culture of quality by coaching team members on test automation practices and tools. Skills & Requirements Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent experience. Proven experience as a QA Automation Engineer or similar role in agile software delivery. Hands‑on experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, RestAssured). Strong programming skills in at least one language (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#). Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integration of automated tests into build and release processes. Experience testing APIs, microservices, and integrations. Familiarity with cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
