Minimum Requirements Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade with minimum 3+ years of experience Key Duties & Responsibilities Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine appropriate welding techniques, materials, and procedures. Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment such as MIG, TIG, and manual arc welding machines in accordance with Australian Standards and company procedures. Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal components and structures, including beams, frames, pipes, tanks, and machinery parts, using various welding and cutting techniques. Cut, shape, and prepare metal materials using oxy‑acetylene, plasma cutting tools, and grinders to ensure precise fit and alignment prior to welding. Inspect and test welds for defects and compliance with required quality standards, tolerances, and specifications. Perform finishing work such as grinding, polishing, and cleaning welded joints to achieve smooth, high‑quality results. Monitor and adjust welding parameters (e.g., heat, gas flow, and electrode type) to achieve correct penetration, strength, and finish. Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and safety checks on welding tools, machines, and equipment to ensure optimal performance. Apply knowledge of metals and alloys such as stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium to select suitable welding processes and consumables. Follow all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and ensure safe work practices are always maintained. Collaborate and communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, fabricators, and other tradespeople to coordinate tasks, resolve technical issues, and achieve project deadlines. Provide regular progress reports to supervisors or project managers, outlining completed tasks, challenges encountered, and materials or tools required. Maintain accurate job records and documentation, including weld maps, inspection reports, and daily work logs, for quality assurance and traceability. Participate in toolbox meetings and safety briefings, contributing feedback and suggestions to improve work processes and safety outcomes. Assist in training or mentoring junior welders or apprentices, sharing technical knowledge and promoting best practices. Skills & Attributes Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Effective communication and teamwork with supervisors and tradespeople. Problem‑solving skills for resolving technical issues on‑site. Reliability and time‑management to meet project deadlines safely.
