Recruiting Junior School Counsellor - (Part-time 0.6 FTE) for 2026: The successful candidate will commence at the beginning of Term 1, 2026 . Appropriate reference and background checks will be undertaken for shortlisted applicants. About the Role The role of the Junior School Counsellor is to support and assist the College to better understand and manage student mental health and wellbeing issues, with a view to improving student outcomes. The Counsellor works within the Wellbeing Framework of the College providing specialist and targeted support to students affected by or with mental health concerns or those experiencing significant emotional and behavioural concerns. This role requires qualifications that meet requirements to be a registered Psychologist or Social Worker. Selection Criteria Current registration with Psychology Board of Australia; or membership of Australian Association of Social Workers Association or membership of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) / ACA (Australian Counselling Association). A strong understanding of current research and practice in the field of children and adolescent mental health, wellbeing and education. Experience in counselling children and young people using evidence-based interventions. A strong understanding of the professional body’s ethical and legal requirements, especially in relation to working within a school setting. Experience in the administration of cognitive, emotional and behavioural assessments and mental health screeners. Experience or willingness to provide professional learning to school staff and families. Knowledge of current child protection legislation. An ability to work independently and collaboratively within and across teams to achieve educational improvement and positive wellbeing. Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Qualifications and Training Relevant tertiary degree and qualifications Hold an employee WWCC Highly Desirable Experience working within a school environment. Experience in facilitating therapeutic groups or delivering professional learning. Experience facilitating proactive and preventative programs that develop social and emotional skills and strengthens the overall wellbeing of students.
