Sister/Charge Nurse - Gynaecology Daphne Ward Go back Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust The closing date is 14 January 2026 We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our Gynaecology Ward as a Sister/Charge Nurse within the Rosie Hospital. You will be supporting the Senior Sister in the provision of expert leadership to guide and direct the team in the implementation of safe, evidence-based care looking after patients within the Reproductive Medicine, Urogynaecology, Breast, Gynae-Oncology specialities within the Gynaecology Service. You will be given dedicated time to provide practice development support for your staff supporting them in the development of their surgical nursing and gynaecology skills. You will also act as a Deputy for the Senior Sister in her absence across the full range of management responsibilities, including bed management and staff management. Main duties of the job To deputise for the Senior Sister in her absence across the full range of management responsibilities, including bed management and staff management. To assist the Senior Sister with the recruitment, selection and interviewing of staff. To be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision. To assist in the setting and implementation of objectives and appraisal of trained staff, learners and professional care workers and to provide a caring working environment in which staff can maximise their potential and develop skills in clinical practice, teaching and ward/clinic management. To act as a role model and promote effective team work across the service to meet the needs of the patients. To co-ordinate and deliver safe and effective nursing care within the unit at night, liaising with the 984 and 707 bleep holders. Making sure the safer nursing tool is complete 3 time a day. To assess triage emergencies in an out of hours service on the ward. To actively participate in the provision of both the inpatient miscarriage and termination of pregnancy pathways/services, based on an open, trusting and non-judgmental approach to care. Take any necessary blood samples to aid diagnosis and cannulate as directed by local agreed protocols/guidelines. To facilitate training and professional development for all grades of nursing staff. Person Specification Qualifications Current registration with the NMC as an adult nurse Evidence of continued professional development Completion of a leadership program Qualification in acute care management and acute care scenario training. Experience Relative length of experience in gynaecological nursing at Band 5 Experience of team leading and evidence of extensive take charge experience. Worked within an early pregnancy unit or gynaecology ward Experience as a team leader Experience in team development e.g. appraisal and sickness management Experience of bleep holding Experience as a Band 6 in another speciality i.e. surgery Knowledge Good knowledge of current research recommendations with regard to the nursing of early pregnancy and gynaecology emergencies Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within the clinical area Awareness of Trust and Ward/Department policies Knowledge of mentorship and teaching Knowledge on understanding on ward nursing quality metrics Knowledge on the standard procedure mentioned in the job description Assessment and measurement of quality and safety.
