Overview Visiting Medical Officer in General Practice – Armidale Rural Referral Hospital (ARRH). The role involves working as part of a small, dedicated team of emergency specialists to provide high‑quality clinical care in a rural setting. ARRH is a 99‑bed facility offering comprehensive acute medical and surgical services, obstetrics, paediatrics, and allied health services. Responsibilities Deliver, as part of a small, dedicated team of emergency specialists, excellence in clinical care to every patient, every time. Promote seamless continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient services. Provide inpatient and emergency department service to ensure optimal medical care for patients of Armidale Rural Referral Hospital. Practice in a busy emergency department, Level 3 Close Observation Unit, mental health unit and renal dialysis unit. Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and support clinical education for trainees. Qualifications A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian College of Rural Remote Medicine and/or overseas trained specialist pathways, or nearing completion of Fellowship. Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in General Practice. Completion or current undertaking of an Emergency Life Support course and skill/experience in Emergency Medicine. Evidence of being a scholar, maintaining medical professional development and ability to assist other staff, including trainees. Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including oral and written communication with patients, students, other health professionals and the public. Evidence of being a collaborator, capable of networking and operating within an interdisciplinary framework. Evidence of managerial capability, including flexibility, experience in changing health system environments, past leadership and safety/quality improvement activities. Evidence of being a professional, engaging in continued development, peer review and clinical governance. Evidence of being an advocate, contributing to improving individual and societal health. Patient Population & Setting The referral community covers 55,200 residents, with adult medical services including respiratory, cardiac, chemotherapy, renal and palliative care, and surgical services covering general, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and ophthalmology.
