Opportunity to advance your career as the Senior Crown Prosecutor - Appeals, in the Director of Public Prosecutions NT. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is recruiting a senior legal professional to join their Executive Leadership Team as the Senior Crown Prosecutor - Appeals (Darwin). As part of the Executive Leadership Team, you will work under the leadership of the Director and assist in providing the Northern Territory community with an independent, professional and effective criminal prosecution service. As the Senior Crown Prosecutor - Appeals, your primary objective will be to provide high-level expert advice directly to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to prosecutorial decisions, complex appeals, and other legal issues, and act and appear in appellate matters, as well as act as a leader within the organisation, mentoring other staff and overseeing appeals from the Local Court. As a DPP Executive, you share oversight of the decisions and ensure they are of high quality and in accordance with the law, guidelines and policy. You will contribute to the development and implementation of changes to systems, ensure continuous improvement in the quality of decisions, and provide professional advice and support to less experienced prosecutors and staff. To be shortlisted for the position it is essential you have been; admitted or are eligible for admission as a barrister or solicitor of the High Court or a Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia, have highlevel knowledge of and experience in criminal law, practice and procedure, proven experience in the prosecution of appeals and other complex matters, and the ability to manage a legal practice. High-level communication and negotiation skills, combined with well-developed political and cross-cultural awareness and an understanding of Aboriginal issues relevant to prosecution services is essential.
