This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with the Commissioner on strategic stakeholder initiatives to influence change in mental health, wellbeing, and suicide prevention reform across NSW. About the Mental Health Commission of NSW The Mental Health Commission of New South Wales (the Commission) was established in July 2012. The Commission's purpose is to lead, drive and measure mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention reform across whole of government. Visit us at: Primary Purpose of the Role The Manager Commissioner’s Office and Strategic Relations is a key leadership role providing high-level strategic advice and content development for the Commissioner on mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention reform. You will lead a team responsible for advocacy initiatives, including submissions, position papers, events and forums to highlight issues and create opportunities to explore solutions. Acting as the primary liaison with the Minister’s Office, you will prepare ministerial briefs, cabinet submissions and strategic advice on government processes. This role also drives the Commission’s whole-of-government engagement, supports implementation of the Agency Strategic Plan, and oversees statutory functions such as the Community Advisory Council. About You You are a highly skilled communicator and strategic thinker with deep expertise in mental health and/or suicide prevention reform. You excel at building influential relationships across government and have a proven ability to provide authoritative advice to senior executives. Your advanced writing skills enable you to craft compelling submissions and position papers on complex issues. You bring strong leadership capabilities to inspire and manage a high‑performing team, and you thrive in dynamic environments where strategic priorities evolve. Essential Requirements Mental health and/or suicide prevention subject matter expert with extensive experience in the mental health and/or suicide prevention ecosystem with an in‑depth knowledge of contemporary reform issues, and/or tertiary qualifications relevant to the role in a health‑related discipline. Highly advanced writing skills with the ability to write about key interrelated issues within the mental health, suicide prevention and alcohol and other drugs service system, including how reform relates to the social determinants of health. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills with a proven experience in building strategic relationships to influence change across government. Proven experience in providing advice to Senior Executives with a sound understanding of government processes including preparing ministerial briefs, parliamentary and cabinet processes. Demonstrated research, analytical, conceptual, strategic thinking skills and project management. Proven experience in leading a high functioning multidisciplinary team, inspiring direction and purpose to ensure cross‑agency collaboration to meet the organisation’s strategic work.
