The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south‑west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council). Position Summary: The Governance Support Officer is responsible for supporting the function in maintaining compliance with the Local Government Act, coordinating projects in a governance capacity relating to elected and appointed members and employees and administrative support of Council in accordance with West Daly Regional Council strategic and regional plans, policies, procedures and relevant legislation. The key duties of this role include but are not limited to: Meeting Administration Coordinate, compile, and distribute agendas and minutes for meetings of Council, Local Authority and relevant committee Meetings Provide in person support for Council, Local Authority and relevant committee Meetings Coordinate Elected Member Travel for all Council, Local Authority, and relevant committee Meetings; including forums and conferences attended by Elected Members from time to time. Coordinate meeting scheduling, including ordering catering and other ancillary duties. Maintain Council, Local Authority, and relevant committee Meetings actions registers, promptly distribute actions to relevant Managers and Officers. Governance Administration Facilitate the completion of statutory declarations of interest returns for Elected Members and the Executive Leadership Team. Update and maintain databases and registers including, but not limited to, correspondence, common seal, complaints, delegations, gifts, declarations of interest. Provide support to Elected Members when required, including assistance with the Governance Training and Development Program. Maintain Councils Policy Register and develop Policy Review Schedule. Coordinate Policy Updates across the Councils Governance Framework. Provide administrative support to the Governance Advisor for functions such as compliance, Governance register management, and other governance functions as required. Records Administration Register, scan, and distribute correspondence to the relevant Manager or Officer promptly and accurately. Support the development of robust records procedures. File documents to appropriate files in accordance with records procedures. Apply appropriate retention and disposal schedules to files in accordance with Local Government Act 2019. Other Provide support to the CEO for calendar management Provide general admin support to the Executive Leadership Team to organise and minute ELT meetings. Provide additional administrative support to the CEO as directed by the CEO. Provide limited cover for the Governance Advisor during periods of leave. Ensure governance documentation is managed in accordance with Council Policy. Perform any other duties as directed by the Governance Advisor or CEO relevant to Governance. About You To be successful in the role, you must have: Certificate IV in a related discipline and/or extensive knowledge and skills gained through on‑the‑job training. Experience in reviewing systems, processes and procedures with a focus on making organisational improvements. Demonstrated experience interpreting NT Local Government Act 2019, Regulations and Guidelines. Demonstrated ability to autonomously run projects, document processes and take ownership of complex and specialised tasks. Current Working with Children Clearance. NT Category “C” Drivers Licence Current Police Check Ability to travel to Regional Communities by 4WD and light aircraft and stay overnight Why Join Our Growing Team?
