Position Research Assistant – Macquarie University, Motor Neuron Disease Research Centre (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde). Salary Package: From $86,087 – $97,879 prorated per annum (HEW level 5), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. Appointment Type: Full‑time, fixed‑term contract for 6 months. About the Role We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant with a background in molecular biology, cell culture and proteomics. The successful candidate will work closely across the NeuroProteomics and Molecular Therapeutics groups, contributing to the development of a therapeutic biomarker for dementia. Responsibilities include providing research assistance to support laboratory projects, managing day‑to‑day laboratory operations, ordering, inventory, equipment maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety requirements. About the Team The Motor Neuron Disease Research Centre (>70 staff) is well integrated into the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Human Sciences and the Macquarie Medical School, offering state‑of‑the‑art facilities and excellent development opportunities. Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s in molecular biology, cell biology or related discipline and experience conducting research. Proficiency with molecular biology and cloning techniques. Experience in mammalian cell biology techniques including cell culture maintenance, transfections and transductions, western blotting. Live‑cell fluorescence imaging and analysis. Strong organisational and time‑management skills. Ability to work effectively within a team (faculty administrators, laboratory operations, staff and students). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Desired Criteria Experience in mass spectrometry. Recognised contributions to the preparation and analysis of high‑quality research data, drafting reports and manuscripts for presentation and publication.
