Advanced Trainee – Addiction Medicine at NSW Health Employment Type: Temporary – Various Hours per week: 38 Where you’ll be working: South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it. Drug and Alcohol Services at SESLHD provide treatment and support for people experiencing problems related to the use of alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, heroin or prescription medications. Our goal is to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes for individuals, families and the community, related to drug and alcohol use. What You’ll Be Doing This position is an accredited Addiction Medicine training position including a possible rotation to the Public Health Unit. Addiction Medicine Provide effective clinical management of patients under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, and maintaining adequate medical records. Develop expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment, including supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments. Public Health Medicine Have the opportunity to spend 6–12 months working within the Public Health Unit, providing public health management in response to notifiable conditions and outbreaks, and undertaking projects that address health protection priorities in SESLHD. Contact the SESLHD Aboriginal Employment Team via email at Qualifications & Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. At least 3 years postgraduate years of medical practice and enrolled or eligible to enroll in AChAM (RACP), AFPHM (RACP) or GP Training programs. Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in addiction medicine or public health medicine. Demonstrated experience working with clients with issues related to drug or alcohol use with commitment to harm minimisation philosophies. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care. Demonstrated high level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non‑clinical audience. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and the ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
