Senior Legal Counsel

SUMMARY An excellent permanent opportunity for a 2IC role supporting the Legal Director across Australia and New Zealand. Based in Sydney with flexible hybrid work, advising on commercial, IT, data privacy, consumer law, and related matters in a growing legal team. THE COMPANY This successful, established services group operates across Australia and New Zealand, with a growing in‑house legal team as part of a global legal function. It is in a growth phase, implementing major technology initiatives and promoting a culture where all staff value colleagues’ contributions. THE ROLE Permanent, full‑time role in Sydney, with hybrid work (2 days in office, 3 from home). Act as 2IC to the Legal Director Australasia, advising on Australian and New Zealand operations. Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including IT contracts, procurement, insurance partner agreements and sub‑contractor terms. Advise on data privacy, consumer law, intellectual property and marketing compliance. Support property matters, including leases, heads of agreement and related documents. Manage external legal counsel and assist in supervising junior lawyers, paralegals and contractors. Contribute to policy development, compliance training and implementation of legal systems, processes and technology initiatives. ABOUT YOU You are a senior legal professional with broad commercial expertise, able to act as trusted 2IC to the Legal Director. Confident working across Australia and New Zealand, you balance strategic priorities with hands‑on delivery. At least 8+ years’ post‑admission experience in general commercial law. Experience in IT contracts, data privacy, consumer law, and procurement; commercial leasing experience desirable but not essential. In‑house experience, ideally with prior 2IC or team leadership responsibilities. Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Able to work independently and collaborate within a growing legal team. Pragmatic and commercially focused, delivering legal solutions in a fast‑paced growth environment.
