Police Liaison Officer, Queensland Police Service As a First Nations Police Liaison Officer, you will assist in developing trust and understanding, between members of the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association (QPCYWA) and the Napranum community by liaising with local First Nations (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander) communities and people from other diverse backgrounds. TARGETED VACANCY This is an identified position. It is a genuine occupational requirement that an Identified position be filled by a First Nations person as permitted by and arguable under Section 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991). It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. One of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities. Your key accountabilities Assist Police Officers to communicate effectively with members of the local community by providing advice on local Aboriginal and Torres Strait customs and protocols. Providing guidance to relevant stakeholders to be aware of the need to balance cultural, policing, QPCYWA, and community needs. Assist the Community to access policing and PCYC services, providing assistance on referral to other community services where necessary. Assist in the delivery and development of a broad range of activities in a safe environment to meet the needs of in the Community, (with an emphasis on young people). Assist in the development and implementation of crime prevention/youth/community development programs to promote community engagement through PCYC Programs. Maintain contact with community leaders by participating in meetings, forums, events and festivals, collaborating to ensure input of community concerns in policing issues. Communicate sensitively with members of the Community to prevent offensive behaviour, violence, unrest and potential crime. Role Requirements This is an identified position. This position involves driving of police vehicles. The occupant of this position is required to hold a Queensland “C” class driver's licence or have the ability to acquire a driver's licence. To perform this position effectively you must agree to wear the Police Liaison Officer Uniform appropriately and work to a set roster. The position may involve weekend work and shift work to attend local festivals, and forums and to meet the policing needs of the local area. Shift penalties and overtime may apply. The interview process may involve a written exercise. Successful applicants will be required to successfully complete the first available Police Liaison Officer Initial Employment Training program. This training program is run at the Queensland Police Service Academy, Oxley. Meals, accommodation and travel will be paid for by the Service, but participants must be available to leave their local area for 2 weeks to complete the training.
