Based in Bar Beach, Newcastle, HBIS delivers outpatient, outreach, and community residential rehabilitation services across the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter, Port Stephens, Greater Taree, and Central Coast regions. The service also operates a 5-bed Transition Living Unit (TLU) that supports clients from regional and rural areas such as Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, and Forbes, particularly where family or carers live within our catchment. Our purpose-built facility features counselling and interview rooms, spacious outdoor areas, gardens, a courtyard, and a yarning circle, providing a comfortable, culturally safe, and recovery-focused environment. You’ll join a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives following traumatic brain injury. Our clinicians include Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Social Workers, Neuropsychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Dietitians, Rehabilitation Assistants, Administration and Housekeeping staff, as well as a Visiting Rehabilitation Medical Specialist and Neuropsychiatrist. For more information about our service and the specialised rehabilitation services across NSW, please refer to the following websites (omitted): About The Role As a Rehabilitation Assistant, you’ll provide day-to-day support to clients staying in the Transition Living Unit, working under the supervision of Allied Health Clinicians. You’ll play an important role in helping clients regain independence and confidence, supporting their physical, social, cognitive, and daily living skills. Key Responsibilities Assist and supervise clients with personal care, daily living, and leisure activities Support therapy programs designed by Allied Health Clinicians Accompany clients to community activities and appointments Support clients with self-administered medication, meal preparation, and laundry Provide feedback on client progress and document shift summaries Participate in meetings, in-service training, and case reviews Shifts are rostered across day, afternoon, and night (Monday to Friday) About You You’re caring, motivated, and passionate about helping people recover from injury and achieve meaningful goals Resilience and adaptability – open to new ideas and approaches Integrity and professionalism in all you do Motivation and commitment to providing quality support Team spirit – working cooperatively and communicating with empathy Respect for diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness A learning mindset, with a willingness to grow and reflect on feedback What We Offer Comprehensive orientation and training, including time with each discipline Ongoing supervision from the Clinical Coordinator and Service Manager Regular performance reviews, check-ins, and education sessions Access to district-wide Allied Health Assistant forums and professional development opportunities A strong sense of team connection and purpose At Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD), enjoy a career where you’re challenged by interesting work and surrounded by spectacular locations. Requirements Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance OR commitment to complete Certificate IV within 3 years To meet Level 2: demonstrated experience as an Allied Health Assistant Level 1 for 12 months or more and/or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (or equivalent) If unable to demonstrate these requirements, commence at Level 1 If you have completed a Certificate IV, you’ll be classified as Allied Health Assistant Level 3 Additional Information To be eligible for permanent employment you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or NZ citizen with a current NZ passport Temporary visa holder may be offered only if no suitable local candidate is identified; visa conditions apply An eligibility list will be created for future vacancies We are unable to accommodate visa sponsorship for this position Need more information?
