Client Summary Our client is an online advertising marketplace that connects media and rights owners with brands and agencies. We offer a platform where media owners can list and sell advertising packages, while brands and agencies can search, book, and buy them online or through our dedicated sales team. Beyond the transaction, our platform facilitates campaign delivery through multimedia file management (images, videos, and audio), post‑campaign reporting, and revenue operations. Role The Financial Controller will oversee financial operations for the client, including its subsidiaries. The role is responsible for managing entity‑level and group‑wide financial processes, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strategic alignment in the media and entertainment sectors. The Financial Controller will handle accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, inter‑company coordination, and financial controls to support group growth. Responsibilities Accounts Receivable – Oversee quote preparation, invoicing, and payment reminders for entity‑specific revenue streams. Ensure timely collection for event subsidiary's event revenue and media subsidiary's campaign contracts. (Requires coordination with entity sales teams for accurate invoicing.) Accounts Payable – Manage purchase orders (POs) and payout scheduling for each entity. Ensure timely vendor payments aligned with entity operations. (Supports event and campaign payment cycles.) Reconciliation – Perform payment and payout reconciliations for entity transactions. Ensure accuracy of entity‑level financial records. (Maintains integrity of entity financials.) Manual Journals – Record entity‑specific transactions and adjust P / L and B / S movements. Ensure accurate financial statement presentation for each entity. (Adheres to AASB standards.) Expense Approvals – Implement authorisation controls for entity expenses. Manage expense processes via Budgetly (physical / virtual cards). (Ensures cost control for entity operations.) Payment Approvals – Oversee authorisation controls for entity payments. Approve vendor and contractor payments for each entity. (Aligns with entity procurement schedules.) Procurement – Establish financial controls for entity‑specific purchase orders and approvals. Oversee procurement for all entities. (Enhances cost efficiency at the entity level.) Statutory Reporting – Prepare quarterly BAS and annual returns for each entity. Ensure entity compliance with local tax obligations. (Coordinates with external CPAs for entity filings.) Management Reporting – Prepare entity‑level P / L, B / S, and cash flow statements. Provide financial insights for entity decision‑making. (Tailored to media and entertainment operations.) Revenue Recognition – Implement entity‑specific revenue recognition rules. Ensure compliance with AASB 15. (Critical for project‑based revenue in each entity.) Budget Setting & Variances – Develop and approve budgets for each entity. Track and analyse entity‑specific budget variances. (Supports entity‑level strategic planning.) Forecasting – Prepare financial forecasts for each entity. Conduct scenario analysis for entity cash flow needs. (Accounts for seasonal cash flows in media and events.) Depreciation & Amortisation – Manage schedules for entity‑specific tangible and intangible assets. Ensure compliance with AASB 138. (Tracks entity asset values.) Payroll – Oversee entity‑specific payroll processing, superannuation, and PAYG compliance. Manage payroll cadence for each entity. (Coordinates with HR for entity staff and contractors.) Commission Management – Administer entity‑specific commission and bonus schedules. Obtain sign‑off for entity‑level bonus structures. (Aligns with entity sales and talent incentives.) Project‑Based Accounting – Track revenue and costs for entity‑specific projects. Manage deferred revenue and profit margin for each entity. (Tailored to entity media and entertainment operations.) Intellectual Property (IP) – Value and amortise entity‑specific IP assets. Track royalty income / expenses for each entity (if required). (Critical for entity content and branding.) Vendor & Talent Payment Management – Manage payments to entity‑specific vendors, freelancers, and talent. Ensure PAYG and superannuation compliance for entity contractors. (Handles time‑sensitive payments for entity projects.) Intercompany Transactions – Manage eliminations for group consolidation. Oversee intercompany loans, service agreements, and cost allocations. (Ensures tax compliance and accurate group financials using Xero.) Consolidated Reporting – Prepare group‑level financial reports. Consolidate financials across all entities. (Requires accurate inter‑company eliminations.) Group Treasury Management – Manage cash pooling and liquidity across the group. Oversee FX management for cross‑border transactions. Optimise group working capital. (Supports international operations.) Transfer Pricing – Establish arm’s‑length pricing for inter‑company transactions. Maintain documentation for tax compliance (e.g., OECD guidelines). (Ensures tax efficiency across entities.) Group Tax Strategy & Compliance – Develop group tax strategies (e.g., R&D incentives). Manage dividend repatriation and group tax filings. (Leverages group‑wide tax benefits.) Intercompany Service Agreements – Draft and maintain agreements for shared services. Allocate costs and ensure group tax compliance. (Supports centralised group functions.) Consolidated Cash Flow Forecasting – Prepare group‑level cash flow forecasts. Analyse cash needs across entities for events and campaigns. (Manages group seasonal and project‑based cash flows.) Group Risk Management – Identify and mitigate group financial risks. Implement group‑wide financial policies. (Protects the group from operational volatility.) Capital Structure Management – Evaluate group debt vs. equity financing. Manage dividend policies for client shareholders. (Supports group growth and shareholder value.) Debt Facility Management – Monitor and report on group debt facilities. Manage interest and principal payments. (If no external facilities, role may prepare for future financing.) One‑Offs – Manage group consolidation and tax advisory projects. Support ad‑hoc group financial initiatives. (Requires flexibility for group strategic projects.) Audit Coordination – Coordinate external audits for all entities. Prepare group audit schedules and reconcile inter‑company balances. (Ensures group‑wide audit readiness.) M&A Due Diligence & Integration – Conduct financial due diligence for group acquisitions. Integrate new entities into group financial systems. (Supports client’s growth strategy.) Stakeholder Reporting – Prepare group financial reports for shareholders, board, and external stakeholders. Manage investor relations for group funding needs. (Ensures group transparency and confidence.) Modelling – Build group‑level 3‑way forecasts, M&A models, and financial charts. Support group strategic initiatives. (Enhances group‑level decision‑making.) Payment Methods – Oversee group payment processes. Implement scalable payment methods for group efficiency. (Ensures consistency across entities.) Qualifications Education – Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CA certification required. Experience – Minimum of 7 years in financial management. At least 3 years of experience working within a multi‑entity group structure. Experience in media, entertainment, or event‑based industries is preferred. Proven expertise in inter‑company transactions, group consolidation, and Australian tax compliance. Technical Skills – Advanced proficiency in Xero or similar ERP systems. Familiarity with expense management tools. Strong skills in Excel or Google Sheets, particularly for group‑level modelling and forecasting. Soft Skills – Strategic thinker with strong attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for stakeholder and cross‑entity collaboration. Ability to manage complex priorities across multiple entities. Knowledge – Deep understanding of AASB standards, OECD transfer pricing guidelines, and ATO regulations. Familiarity with project‑based accounting and intellectual property (IP) valuation in the media and entertainment sectors. Details Group Structure – The Financial Controller will manage a complex group structure with the client as the parent company. Subsidiaries include a media‑focused and an event‑focused company, each with their own subsidiaries. Entity vs. Group Focus – Individual Entity Focus: Operational finance activities such as invoicing, payroll, and project accounting tailored to the unique needs of the media and entertainment company.Group‑Wide Focus: Responsibilities include financial consolidation, inter‑company coordination, tax strategy, and strategic financial oversight to support client’s growth. Industry Context – The role requires adaptability to the financial cycles and operational nuances of both the media and entertainment sectors. Scalability – The Financial Controller will be expected to implement scalable systems (e.g., Xero integrations, treasury tools) to support future group expansion, including potential mergers and acquisitions. Compliance – Strong emphasis on tax efficiency, including transfer pricing, group tax strategies, and audit readiness across all entities. Leadership – The role may include mentoring or managing junior finance staff, as well as coordinating with external advisors (e.g., tax, legal, audit).
