Education Assistant – Auslan Language Model Trinity Anglican College is a co‑educational school with, from January 2026, 1500 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. THE ROLE The Auslan Language Model plays a key role in supporting deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students by modelling high‑quality Auslan and facilitating effective communication across the school environment. The role contributes to inclusive education by supporting teaching and learning, assisting teachers of the deaf, and helping students develop confidence, independence, and strong receptive and expressive language skills. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the Auslan Language Model helps deliver quality educational programs and provides targeted intervention where language or communication difficulties arise. The role also includes active contribution to classroom programs, participation in the supervision of students, and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment that promotes wellbeing, communication, and positive identity for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Provide a high-quality Auslan language model for students, teachers, and families. Support the communicative needs of deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students within the school environment. Assist students experiencing difficulties in Auslan and/or English communication, including intervention as required. Support teachers by checking student understanding, clarifying vocabulary, assisting with homework directions, and reinforcing curriculum content. Prepare teacher‑designed learning materials specific to the needs of deaf/hearing‑impaired students. Work collaboratively with the Teacher to plan and deliver Auslan education sessions for small groups of staff, students, or parents. Plan and participate in deaf storytelling activities. Act as a deaf role model and key contributor to the school’s Auslan environment. Supervise students in classrooms, playgrounds, excursions, and other settings to ensure safety and wellbeing. Provide interpretation of Auslan when appropriate to facilitate communication. Maintain strong professional relationships and contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team. Other tasks may be required from time to time as directed by the Deputy Principal – Junior School or Principal. QUALIFICATIONS Fluency in Auslan Current NSW Working with Children’s Check Current First Aid certificate SKILLS Capacity to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, stage leaders, and specialist staff. Commitment to fostering student wellbeing and inclusion in alignment with the College’s faith‑based values. High‑level Auslan communication skills, including modelling, interaction, and linguistics support. Understanding of Deaf culture, community, identity, and issues affecting deaf/hearing‑impaired individuals. Organisational and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing environments. REMUNERATION Terms and Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the ‘Anglican Schools Commission Inc. NSW Enterprise Agreement 2023’. Remuneration will be determined by the Principal according to qualifications and experience.
