Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer Location: Ponteland, Newcastle, NE20 9SD Onsite/Hybrid: Onsite Right to Work in the UK – we are unable to sponsor a visa for this position Applicants must have the current legal right to work in the UK at the time of application. As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will hold a pivotal role in providing technical leadership and oversight for all mechanical and hydraulic aspects of our onshore and offshore operations. You will contribute directly to the successful execution of critical projects, ensuring that quality, schedule, and budget requirements are consistently met while upholding the highest QHSE and technical standards. This position offers the opportunity to influence operational performance across the organisation through expert guidance, structured problem‑solving, and adherence to established policies and procedures. While primarily based onshore, you will also mobilise to vessels while in port internationally to support equipment breakdowns, replacements, and planned maintenance activities—playing an essential role in maintaining asset integrity and operational continuity. What You’ll Do Lead the safe execution of all mechanical and hydraulic engineering activities, ensuring full compliance with all relevant Health & Safety standards, Codes of Practice, and statutory regulations. Maintain regulatory compliance by ensuring all certifications, inspections, and statutory documentation are current and accurately recorded. Oversee the delivery of major maintenance and engineering activities to meet quality, budget, and operational schedule requirements. Build strong working relationships with offshore crews, onshore teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and alignment. Manage and coordinate specialist contractors, ensuring high service quality and compliance with offshore operational standards. Lead, coach, and develop maintenance personnel, driving performance, competency, and professional growth. Ensure data accuracy within the CMMS (Sertica) and use insights to support maintenance planning, forecasting, and operational decision‑making. Collaborate with planning teams to develop and optimise reactive, predictive, and preventive maintenance schedules. Analyse equipment failures, oversee corrective actions, and drive reliability improvements using key performance data and KPIs. Develop and maintain mechanical maintenance and repair procedures, ensuring alignment with offshore best practices and MOC processes. Provide expert technical support to offshore teams and liaise with Rig Management and onshore technical specialists to resolve complex issues. Lead and participate in engineering and major maintenance projects, supervising multidisciplinary teams and ensuring safe, efficient project delivery. Conduct and oversee equipment inspections, audits, and commissioning/ITP activities for new or refurbished equipment. Manage maintenance and project budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation, cost control, and continuous improvement initiatives. Respond to emergencies or breakdowns with decisive technical leadership, ensuring rapid, safe resolution while maintaining operational integrity. Who We’re Looking For Degree‑qualified Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent) with solid industry experience in heavy engineering environments, marine or offshore preferred. Certified Subject‑Matter Expert in key mechanical or hydraulic disciplines, with a strong commitment to maintaining professional standards. Deep hands‑on expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving faults across complex mechanical and hydraulic systems. Sufficient experience in the installation, commissioning, and optimisation of mechanical and hydraulic equipment, ideally in challenging offshore conditions. A proven leader who has managed engineering teams or activities, bringing strong decision‑making skills and a safety‑first mindset. Comfortable working with hydraulic schematics, and mechanical design drawings, translating technical detail into effective operational outcomes. Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal, including the ability to interact and gain trust from individuals from various nationalities.
