As a Data Engineering Specialist , you’ll play a critical role in driving value for Intermediated Insurance Australia (IIA) by improving how data is utilised across the business. You’ll use your expertise in SQL to design robust data solutions, create scalable assets, and uplift data capability. This is your opportunity to make a real impact by turning data into insights that power smarter decisions. This is a 12‑month max‑term full‑time role based in multiple locations across Australia. What You’ll Do Create robust data objects for presentation layers to support IIA’s data utilisation and reporting needs. Build accurate, reliable data assets for pricing, reporting, and analytics aligned to IIA’s broader data strategy. Provide testing support for business teams following changes to upstream data objects in collaboration with Technology & Operations. Design, develop, and maintain APIs that enable seamless data integration and improve system interoperability. Use experimentation and advanced AI techniques to automate and refine data processes for speed and scalability. Support ad hoc data requests, including investigation of data issues and preparation of reports. Act as a mentor to less experienced team members, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement. What You’ll Bring 5+ years of experience in data engineering, using data to provide actionable recommendations to business stakeholders. Advanced knowledge of SQL, DBT, BigQuery, Cloud Composer, and AI, with expertise in building and optimising data pipelines and APIs. Skilled in reporting and analysis using tools such as SAS and Tableau. Familiarity with industry‑standard tools (Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Collibra, Dataplex, Monte Carlo) and adherence to industry coding standards. Strong understanding of testing methodologies to validate data solutions and ensure reliability. Solid business acumen with the ability to align data solutions to business drivers. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally; relevant degree or equivalent experience in data, analytics, or insurance domains.
