Lead Data Engineer

Seeking a skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our Federal Government Client. Initial 6 Months Contract with extension Sydney based Hybrid work flexibility 2-3 days on-site / 2 days WFH 1st week of February Start We are seeking a Senior/Lead Data Engineer with strong expertise in API development and management to enable seamless and secure data exchange across internal and external systems. The successful candidate will be working in a collaborative, delivery-focused environment. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable RESTful APIs for enterprise data access and integration. Integrate and manage external APIs to ingest third-party data into internal systems. Oversee API gateways, authentication, authorization, and access controls to ensure secure data exchange. Lead technical design discussions and implement scalable data and API architecture aligned with best practices. Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to establish standards for data engineering, CI/CD, testing, and performance. Required Skills 5-7+ years of professional experience in Senior/Lead Data Engineering or related fields Hands‑on experience with big data frameworks (e.g. PySpark, Spark, Hadoop) Proven experience building and managing APIs (REST), including authentication (OAuth2, JWT) and API gateway management Prior exposure to data security and compliance frameworks Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data processing Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills Knowledge of DevOps practices for CI/CD in data pipelines Demonstrated skills in leading a team Due to security clearance requirement for this role, candidate must be Australian Citizen with Minimum Baseline Clearance or Higher .
