About Us For more than 120 years, Hope Community Services has walked alongside West Australians, providing compassionate, practical support for people experiencing alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges, mental health concerns, and social disadvantage. Our Pilbara Community Alcohol and Drug Service (PCADS) delivers evidence-based, culturally secure AOD support to individuals, families, and communities across the region. We work in partnership with local stakeholders to reduce harm, build capability, and strengthen community wellbeing. About the Role We are seeking a Counsellor Educator to join our PCADS team in Karratha. In this role, you will deliver therapeutic interventions, education, and support to people experiencing AOD use and related harms. You’ll conduct assessments, develop personalised recovery or treatment plans, and facilitate both individual and group sessions. Working within a trauma-informed and culturally secure framework, you will empower clients to build insight, strengthen coping skills, and make positive, sustainable changes. You will also contribute to community education, health promotion, and collaborative engagement with local services. What’s on Offer $44.58 per hour (SCHADS Level 4), 38 hours per week $20,000 regional allowance per annum Permanent, full-time position based in Karratha, WA Flexible work arrangements where possible Generous salary packaging (up to $15,900) to boost take-home pay Additional training, professional development, and clinical supervision Supportive, values-driven team culture Make a direct impact on the wellbeing of individuals, families, and the broader community You’ll Need Essential Diploma or higher in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Community Services, or related field Experience working with people experiencing AOD, mental health, or complex psychosocial needs Strong assessment, counselling, and case management skills Experience delivering therapeutic or educational group programs Understanding of co-occurring AOD and mental health concerns Ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal clients, families, and communities Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally secure, harm-reduction approaches Strong communication skills, record keeping, and digital literacy (including client management systems) Professional boundaries, ethical practice, and confidentiality Current First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain) WA C-class Driver’s Licence, National Police Clearance (within 3 months) Desirable Previous experience in AOD or mental health services Experience working in remote or regional settings Familiarity with community education, health promotion, or outreach approaches Understanding of Therapeutic Community principles or ‘community as method’ MHFA certification Next Steps Please submit your resume and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria.
